and half of my lip and chin are numb still, but it is no longer numb anywhere else, and hasn't been for about 5 hours, does that mean that I have nerve damage? If not why would they be numb when the area where they operated isn't?? Please only answer if you Really Know! THank you.
Also how long does the stuff they numb you with usually last?

The numbness can last up to 24 hours, if still there then you need to go back to the surgeon and let him check for you. Normally the numbness will go away but I have seen it last up to a month or more but the numb area gets smaller as time passes. Very seldom does it last forever. It could just be a nerve was pulled but not damaged. Give it awhile. Good luck

Hi, Please dont start worrying yet.. the needle given for wisdom teeth is given quite deep and the effects can last some time. You can be numb for the good part of a day. The chances of nerve damage are almost none. Leave it till tomorrow morning and if it is still numb go and see your doctor.

I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday at 10 am and my right side of my tongue and lip was numb until about 5 or 6. I've had fillings before too, and my lips were numb for even longer. I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Anesthesia can last for up 24 hours. Taste sensation comes form a nerve called chorda tympani which runs along a nerve called the lingual nerve. In order to anestisize the gingiva(gums) around your lower molars the lingual nerve had to be blocked. When you received your injection it probably took place after the chrodi tympani (taste nerve) had joined onto the lingual therefore anestisizing both nerves. Don't worry this happens often and your taste should return soon if not return to your dentist for further consulatation.

it is possible that the nerve is bruised and that the parathesia (numbness) will eventually disapeer. This may take a bit,,days weeks....sometimes it does persist...advise your dr. of this problem.....

I had all 4 bumped off on an analogous time. After surgical treatment I had no concept any time had exceeded. I had it finished on a Friday and via Monday i grew to become into decrease back at college & artwork. I on no account felt any discomfort. i ended taking the meds that Sunday & grew to become into thoroughly superb. My mouth grew to become into extraordinarily swollen on Friday, besides the undeniable fact that it gradually have been given extra useful. there grew to become into in basic terms a sprint puffiness via Monday. I had stitches, yet they have been the type that dissolve, so there grew to become into no could desire to bypass decrease back to the healthcare expert afterwards. All in all, the adventure grew to become into in basic terms superb. so plenty extra useful than I had predicted. you will do superb. One tip: do not take Advil - it is going to dry out your gums & lead them to harm...plenty. I had pals who did this & it grew to become into all undesirable.
