Wedding Dresses of Different colors: A Bit of Folklore
As with many other things in life, there is much folklore and legend surrounding the various other colors that brides have been known to wed in. One old rhyme seems to sum up these notions:
Married in white, you have chosen all right.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen.
Married in red, you will wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in yellow, ashamed of your fellow.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink.

As for white wedding gowns, they came into popularity not so very long ago-- they were intended to show off the family's wealth (that they could afford a dress that would be worn only one time). While the prototype of "the bride" shows a white gown and veil, many less affluent women get married in nice dresses or, more common in the 1930s-1960s, a nice suit that could be worn later.
One of my aunts married late in life, and was most certainly still a virgin (wouldn't be surprized if she still is after 30+ years of marriage ;-) and she wore a color called "candlelight" just for not being so young anymore.
It would be interesting to know how many women these days opt for white and whether this has anything to do with viginity.

The color of the wedding dress simply means the choice of the bride. Nothing more. Doesnt matter the religion, or any of it. The ONLY color specified as a must is White for the undergarment of a Greek woman prior to marriage. She is to wear it during the orginal act of consumation and then the son most present it to his mother as proof of her virtue (ie it had better have blood on it). This is an old tradition and had nothing to do with the dress itself.

Contrary to most beliefs, white can be worn by women that are not virgins. White has developed a new meaning over the past few years. Most recently white has been known to be the color women wear when they marry for the first time or wishing to start new and fresh. Off white, diamond white, ivory etc are just different shades that are offered because color in weddings is the new "in" thing.

I'm not sure if I understand what you're asking. A wedding dress can be many colors from Diamond White to Red.

I've always thought that white means the bride is pure or a virgin. Beige or off white implies that she wasn't a virgin when she got married. Black implies that she may not be happy getting married. Those are the only colors that i'm aware of that a "traditional" wedding dress could be but i'm not sure.

Different dress colors really mean nothing. It just shows a personal choice to be unique since white, although beautiful, has been done and done again...it is your day, so put your own personal touch on it and make it unique!! Do something that hasn't been done before.
