What about killing for your country ?

I don't believe in killing for any reason and I don't think that I could do it unless my children were in immediate danger. I know that killing has been a part of humanity for a very long time, but I personally think that we as humans have reached a level of maturity where we can just stop. We need to practice what we preach. How many of us as parents tell our children every day to use their words - that violence does not solve anything - and then our leaders send people with guns around the world. I think the time has come to really put down our weapons and work as 1 human race in peace to provide a good life for everyone.

Peace!

How many of you so called non-religious types believe in the death penalty or killing for your country?

God let Cain live, and soon there was so much violence that it took a worldwide flood to settle things down. After the flood He laid out new rules: "Whoever sheds blood, by man shall his blood be shed." (Gen. 9:6) That slowed violent crime down a little, but when Moses organized the Hebrews, they had to be more orderly and there was a system of Cities of Refuge, etc. No jail. If what you did was really bad, there was a death penalty. Evil people sometimes skewed the system, like Ahab killing Naboth through the court system in order to take his field... Sigh. There are enough people willing to kill for their country that I would offer to give my life for my country in other ways. However, I believe that in the criminal just system, the death penalty is actually merciful. I don't believe in "life imprisonment."

Some people believe in the death penalty, and think abortion is wrong.

Some people believe in abortion, and think the death penalty is wrong.

I like to think that my opinion on these two subjects is more consistent -- I'm against both.

I believe in the death penalty for murder. It is Biblical.

Gen 9:6 Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood shall be shed by man. For He made man in the image of God.
This is part of the covenant God made with Noah. That covenant was never rescinded.

Rom 13:2 So that the one resisting authority has opposed the ordinance of God, and the ones opposing will receive judgment to themselves.
Rom 13:3 For the rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the bad. And do you desire not to fear the authority? Do the good, and you will have praise from it;
Rom 13:4 for it is a servant of God to you for the good. But if you practice evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain; for it is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one practicing bad things.
Rom 13:5 Because of this, it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.

I believe in capital punishment for certain crimes, most especially violent crimes (kidnapping, rape, and murder).

I differentiate between the exercise of a civil court and it's duty, and military exercises that result in death (war). There is no question of guilt/innocence in a firefight, or of any civic duty, or of justice. War is about control, not justice.
