Check out your local aid agencies, who might have information of some of the local charities. Some may actually have Christmas parties, meals and other such things. Some may even have Christmas presents that you will be able to bring home for your young ones. This week, there are likely soup kitchens offering Thanksgiving meals for free. The food pantries will help you stock up with food for the holidays as well.

Whether or not you are a Christian, contact some of the Christian churches as many might be in a position to help people like you.

Don't think that a great gift is the most important thing for your children. You can make it special with just small things. Plan a celebration of your own to have at home. If you're a Christian, sing some songs... you can play an instrument, or perhaps a CD or a tape. Make inexpensive ornaments for a tree. If you don't have a tree, you might do as a friend of mine did a couple of years ago... She celebrated Christmas late, and got a tree for free from one of the vendors the day AFTER Christmas.

If you would like some ideas if you're not Christian, you can e-mail me and I'll give a few more.

Have a Blessed holiday however you celebrate it..

The Salvation Army is a good place for gifts, but in my neighborhood we also have a place called The Joint Neighborhood Project that has the same sort of stuff.

Another possibility (depending on your feelings towards this), you could check with your close friends who also have children and see is they have any gently used clothes and toys they wouldn't mind giving to you. Just think of it as "Hand-Me-Downs" between friends (which is ALWAYS ok!)

Check with local churches (many tend to ask for donations and then distribute them where needed).

Good luck and Happy Holidays!
