It means that in the natural course of events God intervened to change that course of events.
Here is an example of something that happened to me personally: I was driving behind a pickup truck hauling a chest of drawers. It was laid on top of some other furniture on it's back. I don't know if the driver hit a bump or if a big gust of wind came but the chest of drawers came flying up and I saw that it was going to hit my windshield. All of a sudden it stopped and was laid back down very calmly, gently and deliberately. If it had just fallen back down because of the actions of the driver it would have shattered and made a huge sound. None of that happened. It happened just in the way it did so that I would know I was saved by divine intervention.
I have NO DOUBT in my mind that God intervened that night to save my life and the lives of my family.
Praise be to God Almighty!

Divine means Godly.
intervention means to interupt or step in and take over.
Divine intervention means that God steps in and saves you from problems.
However, if you have not prayed for God's help, he will not help you. It is simply his nature not to interfere, unless he has been invited into your life by you. This paragraph defines "free will". You have the choice to believe or not believe in God. You also have the choice to pray or not pray.

Intervention - action affecting another’s affairs: an action undertaken in order to change what is happening or might happen in another’s affairs, especially in order to prevent something undesirable
Thus, divine intervention refers to the actions / events that change / affect the things that happen to us / others coming from God / other deities...

It means that out of no where, suddenly there is someone, something, comes to your help. And the help brings to you so much relieve, and keep on pestering you to find out the meaning of it all. Then it cross to your mind - and it is very strong - that god had help you.
