The "old ways" where stolen from us by the advertising industry. Think about it. In the "old days" if a family had a car, enough food on the table and decent clothing, they where considered a success. Now, you are convinced you need at least 2 cars (one being a massive 4 wheel drive) fast food 4 nights a week, the latest in designer trends ad nauseum. A family with a parent working as a skilled laborer in this country makes plenty enough money to support that family under the "old" definition of success. Not even 2 skilled laborers can keep up with all they are told they "need" to feel good about themselves

Women aren't forced to work. They can if they want but they don't HAVE to! I am married and planning on having children and I don't work. If I were ever to get a job, I would probably do part-time because I would much rather spend my time at home raising my family. Society nowadays has given men and women more choices in terms of work and staying at home. A man can work from home while spending time with his family and a woman has the right to go out and work. I do somewhat agree with you though, on how children are messed up these days with drugs, sex at an early age, etc. Personally, I would want to raise my own kids rather than sending them to a babysitter.

Perhaps it has something to do with "Women's Liberation".
When I was growing up there wasn't probably 1 woman in 10,000 that worked out side the home. BUT.....they DEFINITELY worked at home. It wasn't ALL peaches and cream.....not back in those days.
Electricity was a luxury.
Telephones were rare and if you had one it was a party line with the rest of the party line owners listening in.
No running water for most of the population.
Out houses for restroom and NOT close to the house. On cold nights it was tough.
Fire places, NO central heat.
NO air conditioning
NO refrigerators OR freezers.
Wood stoves to cook on....."some" electrical.
Rode mule and wagon to town, or walked. Going to town was an all day job.
Steam engine trains would mess up your clothes with suet.
Had to work in the fields.
Had to can food.
Kill a hot and either canned the meat or salted it down.
There are many, many other "jobs".....to many to list.
Still want to be a "home" mom, like "old" days?
Good luck. Pops

Even though I don't like my job I love the independence and freedom that it gives me. I hate the thought of being dependant on my husband (if I had one) and have to ask for money so I can buy new underwear.
Women fought so hard for equality and you're ready to give it all up just so you don't have to work? Because you think it will solve all of today's problems? Well honey, you go find yourself a sugar daddy to take care of you and have lots of kids. It won't change the fact that the opportunity for alcohol, drugs and sex will still be present.
Not all working families neglect their kids. People are very capable of working and raising their children right. It's the values and principles that they teach their kids that make or break them not because Mommy's home all day to constantly watch every move they make.

My mother stayed home with us while my dad worked. She didn't work til my oldest son, who is now 19, was 2 years old and she worked part time in the day care he attended.
My point is, it doesn't matter if you have a single parent home or both parents in the home, money, no money, only one working or both working, our children are going to do what they are going to do and be who they are going to be. My brother and I were hell on wheels. We caused so much chaos for my parents.....we both got into drugs, drinkin, unplanned pregnancies (me), and whatever else you can think of.
We can do all we can to steer our children in the right direction, but we cannot force them to do the right thing, not for long, anyway. All we can do is instill good morals and values and hope they make the right decision. Whether we agree with it or not. Oh and pray and hope they live through the consequences of the decisions they make.

many women WANT to work. when they stayed at home men lorded over and could abuse them. gangs were around since the beginnings of time. as for kids getting pregnant too young that is more society is changing. 16 used to be the perfect age to be married off but now it is later and also women are now having children at 55 where in the past they usually stopped around 40.

I think that you ought to do alot more research on this subject before making such a statement.Let's say the world worked out like you wished it would.: married, house 2.5 kids, family pet. What if your husband had a drinking or drug problem and smacked you and the kids around?Would you stay with him because he financially supports you? What if Hubby gets laid off, or runs out on you?Where would you be then?Or what if, Gods forbid, he died and had racked up bills you didn't know about that wiped out the insurance money?I could give you senario after senario that would blow your ideal out of the water.Too many women make the mistake of putting all their dependance on their spouse/boyfriend/etc. and all they are is 1 step away from the welfare lines.

Today most families want a nice house on large lot, 2 or more cars, expensive toys (motor homes, 4 wheel drives, boats, plane, etc.), nice vacations and travel, parties and nice clothes. For most, this requires both hubby & wife to work. If you forget most of these things, then there could be more full time mons & wifes.

would you like to give up your right to vote too?
kids get their habits from other kids at school.
you live in a fantasy world if you think that seeing you at home for 5 hours a night will change the ideas that they got in 8 hours at school. kide rebel against "helicoptor" or hovering parents.
they are in gangs because rap videos and songs make it COOL.
they do drugs for the same reason. society sucks because there are no positive role models anymore.
the era that you are talking about saw policemen and firemen as heroes. now these people are the enemy. and drug dealers and
prison convicts are the new role models.
It takes 2 people to make it in this world. get used to it. and get used to working. or pray that you can hook up with a rich man.
