I hate disagree with the others here, but our personal experience with mileage on four Neons is nowhere near as high as reported above. I have seen four Yahoo questions in the past two weeks asking about Neon mileage. So you are obviously not alone.

One of our Neons (a '95) was an automatic. All were stock, well maintained and driven in a spirited fashion, but not in an abusive manner. We have maintained year 'round mileage information since the first fill-up on all four. Our city mileage has averaged 24mpg or about 250 miles (400km) per tank. Our highway mileage has averaged about 29mpg or about 320 miles (520km) per tank. You need to average mileage over many fill-ups over a long time before drawing any conclusions. Check out what road tests in auto magazines have reported on actual use.

My experience agrees with the answer saying using A/C does reduce mpg substantially. If you live in Canada your experience may be better than mine. Neons, except for the SRT-4, are geared for city performance, not highway economy. Neons are known for their handling, brakes and inexpensive purchase, not their mileage. So, frankly I think your mileage is average for a northern, year 'round driven Neon. We do not mean to rain on your parade.

I can get close to 390 miles on mine (figures out to aout 35 mpg on highway), -- since I keep track of miles, and gallons, and sit down and figure it out over a thousand or more miles to calculation. This gives you a more acccurate adverage than just a tank full, -- plus I never ran the tank all the way dry, - so I don't know how for it actually would go before it stops! My car is a 96!

I have a standard transmission, and live in moderate hills,-called The "Hill country" of Texas (USA), - it drops about 3mpg adverage when driving on hot days with a/c running (near 100 degrees farenheit) I probably "push" it a lot harder than some people might! So If I accalerated a lot slower , - and perhaps drove slower (70mph here - speed limit) , - I might be able to get a little better!

It's going to depend on whether you have a manual or automatic transmission. My Neon, a 98, and an automatic, gets from 25 to 32 miles per gallon, and the absolute most I have ever got from one tank is 375 miles. Normally, I get just over 300 miles. I drive a lot of freeway, so I tend to get better mileage than if I drive streets. A manual transmission can possibly get better, depending on how it's driven.

What the hell! I have an 04 but get only 180 miles (290 kms) to a full tank. That's way after the light comes on. It seems to run good and has overdrive which is working fine. I drive it easy and have never gotten any better mileage. Many times while in drive stopped at a light it will suddenly vibrate like a plug just died. I shift to neutral and back to drive and it's fine again. Don't want to get rid of it as it's a to work and home car. Any ideas anyone?

Don't get a tornado or any of that other garbage being sold, it's all crap! I have heard slight mpg gains from others mixing in acetone but I don't know that mix ratios. I'd just make sure your car is tuned up and that you drive at the speed limit.
