I am applying for financial aid for the first time which requires that I complete a fasfa application. My problem is that I haven't had contact with either of my parents for over 6 years, and have no way to obtain the required information for the fasfa. What do I need to do so that I don't have to supply my parent's information?

Guardian information is only necessary if you are a minor or have just turned 18. If you have been out of your parents custody at anytime I would contact your old social worker or DSS office. They will give you the information required to prove you are a ward of the state or an emancipated minor and haven't been in your parents care since xyz date. Also being a ward of the state, even if just temporarily until someone else took custody, makes you eligible for scholarships.

Well first of, do you live on your own? And are you over 18? And work? Than you would be considered an independant. I just finished filling out my FAFSA yesterday.

Just start the FAFSA, and if the website determines you are an independant, than it won't ask questions about your parents at all. I didn't have to answer any.

The website is very informative and helps out a lot, and you can always go back and correct your mistakes. Good luck!

You do not inclue them in your fasfa. Your not a dependent. It is only there to see if you are a dependent. But you do not have to complete that part. Go to fafsa.us and see if you are considered a dependent. If you are married you are not and if you were born before 1983 your are not. But it looks like you need their names, socials and date of births anyways. Good Luck.

you may't fill out your fafsa which includes your grandparents tips except they legally observed you. you're being informed incorrect tips and don't overlook you and your grandpa ought to sign the variety acknowledging all the tips is real and spectacular. It even lists the outcomes for "offering fake or deceptive tips". i've got confidence the fines are as much as $10,000 and penitentiary time. we could see, 5 fafsas at 10,000 a peace... thats 50,000. once you're caught. examine right here archives promptly off the dep. of training's internet site.
