Let me first state that I'm not a Christian, I'm simply playing the Devil's advocate (no pun intended.)
Technically, if God exists and he gave us free will, that doesn't mean we always get to use it. Those times that prayers are answered, he intervenes and makes things happen.
However, just because you prayed and you got what you wanted doesn't mean God gave it to you and you will never know one way or the other.

People believe that God lands the jobs in their lap... but the truth is when they pray, God's blessings comes as inspirations, inspiring them to say the right thing, dress the right way and meet the right company.
From a Buddhist point of view, it also deals with karmic connections between the interviewer and interviewee, some people you bond with like old friend on the very first meeting, some you want to smash their heads in the moment you lay eyes on them.
God does not COMPEL the interviewer to GIVE the job, but he enhances the interviewee's potentials to the best that they can be. God wont magically ZAP them to be Super-Devotees... hehe
What I interpret to the statement "God works in mysterious ways" is sometimes God blesses an individual with disasters and calamity to answer their prayers... they pray for strength so God gives them problems to overcome, and in the process get stronger and more resilient.... or when they pray to be Patient ... God will bless them by allowing them to meet difficult people that will prod at their patience to train it to perfection...
Thats how I see it... Blessings don't always come as daisies and rainbows, sometimes it comes as hailstones so we learn to be wiser and think for ourselves... God didnt create brains for people to have blind faith, no logic and be robots.
Add: Yes we DO have free will to say what pleases us... but when a person "prays", then inspiration streams through... it is then up to the individual to pick whatever tools have been given to us, to use. We can off course do this by our own strength, but I am refering to those of us who pray till beads of blood sweat from our forehead due to anxiety haha. Since we have asked for help, then use the help we receive, otherwise, why ask at all? Thats why i personally believe, that which can be humanly achieved... shouldnt be prayed for. I see parents praying for their kids to be "good kids" or to study well... those things shouldnt involve divine intervention but deals more in parenting and nurturing... maybe they should pray for inspiration to BE better parents to help their child grow and themselves to evolve into better parents... not just throw the problem in God's lap and say " Hey God, its your problem, if it doesn't turn out its your fault" Prayer has been seen to give Mental and emotional benefits according to psychologists... ( putting the mystic aspects aside ) Develops confidence and assurance... with these two qualities armed... half of any battle is won as it is paraphrased from Sun Tzu's art of war

No prayer is for the person getting the job, it's not for God he already knew you were getting the job if you just believed and had faith that he would open that door for you. God knows the out come of every situation you just have to have faith and believe in his word and if something bad happens use it to learn from not to lose faith from.

I do not question God's actions. I believe He is the Almighty Powerful to the point that I am too afraid to think of Him in that way. He knows what's in my mind, I fear his anger. I am much too sensible to make Him angry by asking such questions.
I ask Him for things they way a child ask a parent for candy. A child is too weak to earn money to buy the candy.
I know U might be laughing at me, its OK. I am happy with my bleiefs. I am not hurting others with it.

My prayer is for me to be able to get a job. He did not give it to me but he must have guided me to come to you and in your own volition you hired me for what I know and you freely chose me to work for you. You are also free to fire me afterwards. God did not hire nor did he fire me. Yes God works in mysterious way and it is a mystery for me why of all these years you still cannot understand God and your Free Will.
