I think sometimes we use the word "love" a bit too loosely, just like we use the word "hate" often.
I think love and hate should be very extreme. If you love somebody, it means that you would do anything for the happiness and well-being of that person. If you love someone you can't rest easily one second if you know they are in any pain or problem. If you love someone, you would want to see them and be with them all the time. Now, do you have these feelings for that person you respect and like? If yes, then you do love them. You can like and love someone =)

Well if I was to say this in the right way I would say that God says to love those who are against you. You can love every person in the world, but you can hate some of the ways that people have. So I say love the person, but not like their ways and show respect to everyone. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You would like the respect even if the person doesn't like you.

of course, you like and respect so many people in a life time - unless you never have a job, never have friends, or venture outside your own house, etc. You only love a few, if that. There's a massive difference. I like and respect all of my friends, co workers, and people I just know. I only love one person though.

Yep, I respect and like the bloke in Wellingborough who re-heels my shoes for me and cuts the odd key.

I like him because he is an original character. I repsect him because his views - although different to mine - are earnestly held and reasonable - he is a man of integrity.

But I do not love him as such. If I heard he had died tomorrow, I would think "oh, that's a shame" but I would not feel the loss I would for a friend that I love.

There are people I love and do not like
There are people I like and do not love
There are people who I like AND love but am not IN love with
There are people who tick all the boxes ;)

yes it is so very true, u can like or care about someone and respect them. i'm not sure if you're refering relationships or not but you don't have to love a person in order to have respect for them. it's just great to give and receive respect.

Sure, you can. I respect and like most of my coworkers, but I don't love them. I guess it depends how you define "like" and "love".
