if he keeps his name off for 1 day:
an extra story at bedtime
after 3 "good behavior" days:
an extra tv show or game with you
after 5 total good days:
an ice cream cone
also - make a chart at home that has a gold star for every good day - where he can see it. it will serve two purposes - it will make it very concrete for him and it will reinforce that you communicate with the teacher and you know what goes on at school.
try that.

If he truly is the class clown, he does things for attention negative/positive. Putting the name on the board is a reinforcement. Have her keep a sepeerate sheet and write down his name if he acts up there. Also, have her indicate when it is occuring throughout the day and what activities are happening in school so that you c an see if there is a pattern or reason why this is happening. Some kids act like class clown because they need help........don't like to do math or don't understand it......so they act up and then don't have to do the work for a little while.
Also, ask her to think of a few good things that he did that day. The way to eliminate bad behavior is to focus on the good. Make him feel good about that and then he will continue to want to be rewarded.

I know this isnt what you asked for did you think that maybe he is bored? Thinkg of something he really likes maybe ice cream going to see a movie going to the park. I am sure the school sends home notes and tell him if he comes home with so many good nights a week at the end of the week you will take him to get ice cream and the better he behaves up the number of times he has to get good note untill you get to the point he has to have a good note everyday. I hope I have helped.

So how is your child at home around you? If good, sitting with him through class should do wonders--even if it means taking time off work. My child responds better to praise than almost anything. I have yet to find a punishment I think is effective.
More importantly, he needs to develop skills he feels good about. Make sure your child has some skill he works at on a daily basis: karate, piano, and tennis are all good. Nothing like feeling good about himself to have less reason to act out.

I would find out how much of his behavior is the teacher expecting too much from a 5 year old and how much of it is out of hand.
Then sit with your son and his teacher to work out a plan to help him.
It could consist of a reward plan daily or weekly.
What ever you choose make sure you can follow through on it.

My daughter(1 1/2) and brother(10) too.My brother encourages her. He's in 5th grade and almost everyday my mom gets a call from school(same thing when I was in school). My mom says my daughter is bad cause I was.She used to bring white castles or McDonalds to school every 3 weeks I was good.I only got that about 2 times. With your son he might grow up to be like my brother. You dont want that.Make a deal with your son.If he is good in school, give him a certain thing he likes.Than after 5 times stop giving him things.
