No. It will float and buckle. There will be nasty debrie under the carpet that will cause problems later. The flooring may pull apart due to poor support from underneath.
Proper way is to pull the carpet
Smooth the floor (pull nails, staples, fill cracks and nail down
loose boards.)
wash - sweep the floor
cover with base felt - adds some sound proofing and mositure control.
Lay down new floor
install molding

Goto web sites for vendors - they will give very good instructions you can print out and estiments of amounts of supplies needed. estimate 15 to 20 percent loose of floor boards higher for a small room less for a large room. Due to the cuts off waste of the end of boards so you do not have seam lines mating up. WHen the floor is preeped estimate 5 hours with clean up for a 10 x 15 room depending on your equipment and skill set.

NO. Remove the carpet, clean the floor and put down an underlay specific to your laminate flooring ( ask your dealer )
It will be a thin felt like or vinyl like material on a roll, depending on your type of laminate floor. The underlay cushions the flooring, evens out any subfloor imperfections and prevents the laminate sections from slipping, popping or seperating. It will also be mildew resistant to avoid moisture related problems. Carpet left underneath may become damp and mildew and odor problems will result. Don't skip the manufacturers recommended underlay because potential problems may make it a costly omission..

Remove the carpet first or the give in the carpet will cause the laminate to not lay properly. Also if you don't remove the carpet, the laminate won't fit under the base trim properly.

No way - when you buy your laminate flooring they will also give you an underlay specific to laminate. It is only a couple of mm thick and anything thicker than that will cause boards to not align properly giving you big gaps at the joins.

you will create issues and violate any guarantee your fabric could contain via installation it over the incorrect style of cushion. Laminate cushion is thinner and denser than carpet pad. do not do it.
