I'm under the impression that if you have some frozen bacon, thaw it in the microwave, cook a couple pieces and put the rest of the pack in the fridge, the rest will all quickly go bad because the microwave partially cooked them.

Because of this, whenever I thaw some bacon in the microwave, I fry up the whole pack. Unfortunately, there's so much that much of it often goes to waste.

Am I doing things right? Can I just take the thawed pack and put it in the fridge without worries?

No it won't go "bad". It takes a few days for that to happen.

You Can refridgerate bacon after defrosting.

DO NOT EVER REFREEZE ANY MEAT AFTER DEFROSTING!!

Meat has natural bacteria that when cooked, it dies.

When you defrost meat, you begin the rotting stage all over.

That is why they tell you to freeze meat if you are not going to eat it within three days.

Meat can only be left in the fridge for three days maximum before it is contaminated.

The chances of getting Ecoli increase by 50 percent everyday it sits without being frozen.

If you freeze your meat after letting it sit in the fridge for more than a few hours, you decrease the amount of time it will last in the freezer as well.

May I make some suggestions to you?

If you are the only person in the house, seperate your meat packs into single packs before freezing.
This will decrease waste and the need to cook huge packages up so they won't go bad.

When freezing meat, make sure it is wrapped securely and completely in zip lock bag or aluminum foil.
Look for holes in bags or foil and if you find one, cover it up completely before freezing.

This prevent freezer burn as well as cross contamination.

When handling meat to be frozen, wash your hands thoroughly from the wrist to the tip of your fingers with HOT soapy water.

Wash your hands after each contact ie; chicken to beef to pork.

This will also prevent cross comtamination as each specific type of meat carries it's own brand of diseases.

Pork is especially notorious for carrying REALLY BAD diseases that can cross contamination.

Hope this helps.

my micro wave has a melt
soften and warm button as well as defrost
but what i do is put the package in the micro and set it for 20- 30 sec. and check to see if it softened
if not i try another 10 sec.
then i take it out
remove what i want to use before it all defrosts and wrap the remainder in saran wrap and return to the freezer
if you only soften it a tiny bit you do not have to cook the whole thing
if however it is completely defrosted you do as you never refreeze meat once it is thawed
they also now make microwaveable bacon that comes in portion packs in the box
this way you don't have to waste a whole package
it is a little more expensive but cheaper than throwing it away

If you thaw it out in the microwave you should defiantly cook it all right away. You're actually partially cooking it which encourages bacteria growth. When I buy a pack of bacon and know I won't use it all in one go I separate it out before I freeze it. This also prevents me from eating too much bacon at one time.

I've thawed it in the microwave and only taken what I want and refrigerated the rest. It did not go bad and no one got sick from eating what was left.

I wouldn't take any chances, cook up the whole package. And the next time you buy a pack, separate into individual servings and freeze it that way. Then you will only thaw what you need.

Peace.

I thaw it enough in the micro to get what I need(usually requires a bit of careful peeling) and then refreeze the rest. Been doing this for over a decade! :-)=

If you defrost properly it will not cook the bacon and can be refridgerated. Otherwise cut the bacon in smaller units before you freeze it and put it in freezer hags.

what you can do is cut the package in two and wrap the other half up and put back in the freezer, or put in it the frige and finish it off it the next few days
