RE:
How long do you cook hard boiled eggs?
OK, I admit, this is VERY embaressing. I'm 40 years old and have never made hard boiled eggs before. (I'm a guy, can you guess?) Now I need to make some and I have no idea how long they are supposed to sit in boiling water (I ASSUME they cook in boiling water, right?) Much appreciate...

You'll find if you do a search that this answer has been answered many times. Put some eggs in a saucepan and cover by at least an inch with cold water. Bring to boil for ten minutes. Remove from heat and place to rest for about 15 more minutes...then you need to rinse and cool so they don't get the ugly grey ring. I'm sure others have their methods, but my one tip for peeling easier is to not forget the salt in the water!!

Hard boiled eggs is a misnomer... it should be called Hard Cooked Eggs because....
Technically, you don't need to boil the eggs... you soak them in boiling water for about 15 minutes... However, here's the recipe from the Georgia Egg Board....
Hard Cooked Eggs
Place eggs in single layer in saucepan. Add enough tap water to come at least 1 inch above eggs. Cover and quickly bring just to boiling. Turn off heat.
If necessary, remove pan from burner to prevent further boiling. Let eggs stand, covered, in the hot water about 15-17 minutes for large eggs. (Adjust time up or down for each size larger or smaller). Immediately run cold water over eggs or place them in ice water until completely cooled.
To remove shell, crack it by tapping gently all over. Roll egg between hands to loosen shell, then peel, starting at large end. Hold egg under running cold water or dip in bowl of water to help ease off shell.

Here's an easy Method: Put eggs in a pan of water and bring to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let set for 25 minutes. Run cold water over eggs in pan until cool. Tip: boiled eggs peel easier if you peel them right after they cool down and under running water!

I fill a pan with cold water and add the eggs. Cover the pot and allow it to come to a boil. When it comes to a boil take the pot off the heat, keep it covered, and let it sit for 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes are up, place the eggs in a bowl of ice water and let the cool. The eggs turn out perfect everytime!
Enjoy!

I'm older than you and up to a couple days ago I'd have agreed that the way to do it is place them in cold water to cover and quickly bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes.
However, I recently have found that to put them in cold water to cover, bring to boil over medium high heat is a start, but it is better to then cover the pan and remove from the heat for 15 minutes. They are hard, but not overly so.
Either way, drain in put them in cold, even icy, water as soon as possible to make them easier to peel.

Boil for about ten minutes. You can test if they're done by spinning them on a counter top. If it wobbles, it's not hard, but if it spins nicely it's done.
