Boil some water first, then add the shrimp for about four minutes or until they turn pink. Drain and rinse with cold water. They are not supposed to be raw.

Most supermarkets sell shrimp pre-cooked. Buy it, refrigerator it, rinse in cold water, dry between paper towels gently, serve with appropriate sauce. Or it can be be purchased frozen. Follow defrost directions.
If you're starting with uncooked shrimp in shell, you need to remove the shells and clean the shrimp and cook in boiling seasoned water until they turn pink (doesn't take long), then refigerate.
