anyone know of any new or old working treatments for the relief or cure of progressive M.S.?

I do NOT condone this in anyway, BUT, I've read very convincing reports and have one friend with it that say that Medical Marijuana helps. Whether or not this is true, I dont know. But depending where you are, it may be a possiblity. Although, it does cause cancer.

Progressive (relentless MS) has been researched for treatment... the following have been shown to help...

Novantrone (mitoxantrone): Although extremely effective, this can only be taken for 2-4 years, since it will do damage to the heart. Since it is a cancer chemotherapy drug, there will also be nausea, vomiting, and mild hair loss following each biweekly dose.

Tysabri (natalizumab): This med is convenient (it is one IV infusion every 1-3 months, no daily injections or stuff like that), but was suspended briefly since apparently it can activate a latent viral infection... the infection is caused by the "JC" virus, 50-80% of us have it latent in us already, and with the T-cells in the immune system weakened enough, the JC virus may occasionally "activate". This results in a condition called "PML", which causes nerve damage that is very similar to that of MS. Unfortunately, it is almost universally fatal within one year. The 3 cases of PML seen with Tysabri use were all seen with people using interferons at the same time, so use of the two together is not recommended. --- BUT, do note, that only THREE cases of PML occurred in a population of thousands who were using Tysabri and interferons together. So it is a calculated risk. A special program is in place to reduce risk of JC PML during use of Tysabri.

An exciting new medication, Fingolimod, is in clinical trials now. It is an immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory medication. It is a pill, and not an injection.
