Because people are immature and hate dogs, therefore they can't fathom someone else actually loving dogs! I let my cat have a litter of kittens so my kids could see the process, knowing ahead of time every kitten would have a loving home. I asked a question on Answers about the kittens and I got so much crap about not "doing the right thing in the first place and spaying the cat"! I was so friggen insulted! God forbid people actually want to keep the dog and cat race going! Ignore them, there's nothing wrong with breeding your animal. People out there have strong opinions and feel that their thoughts are certainly not opinions, but facts that you need to know. Boo hoo to them. Have fun and good luck with your puppies!!!

Because if you breed your dog, then the puppies end up in a bad home, I have to rescue that dog and rehabilitate her. Now that doesn't sound like your handling the problem. A good breeder would be willing to take that puppy back no matter the age and re-home her. But because you simply bred your dog and didn't bother writing up a contract requiring the new owner to neuter their dog, now their dog has been bred and I have to rescue their dog AND all the puppies. And so the cycle goes. And that's why TEN MILLION dogs are killed each and every YEAR here in the USA. And until every one of those dogs can find a home and there is no more abuse or death, I will be against people like you and anybody else breeding their dog. The only dogs that should be bred are ones with a CH. in front of their name. Case closed.

Because just because you have two pure bred or akc registered dogs it does not mean that they are breed quality. This is why good breeders sell their pet quality pups with a spay/neuter contract. It is to ensure that their breed stays as close to the breed standard as possible. Every time a certain breed of dog becomes popular the health and the temperment problems they may have become worse because of people breeding dogs that should never have been bred. Greed should never be a reason to breed and for those byb who say they do not do it for the money are full of crap!

1. Why create more when there are already so many on death row just because a human didn't take them home.
2. Many people are "backyard" breeders--they don't breed their dogs to better that specific breed. They just want to have some babies from the dog they love. They don't take many things into consideration such as the dog's needs before after and during pregnancy, the cost of vet bills for checkups and possible complications (there are many), the temperament of both parents, and where the puppies are going to go.
Most of the birthing cases I see at work end badly. I don't remember ever having a pregnant dog come in the office healthy, or leave with live pups. And this is 99% of the time because the owners were not diligent about having their animal spayed/neutered and allowed mating to occur.

Because You Shouldnt Breed Any Dog Unless You Are Trying To Improve The Characteristics Of The Breed. And You Should Have Both The Sire And Dam Health Tested Before Breeding To Make Sure They Are Healthy.

Because people aren't breeding to bring out the best in a breed, they are breeding for all the wrong reasons. With up to 20 MILLION cats and dogs being euthanized EVERY YEAR because there aren't enough homes for them should be reason enough.
Watch this video and tell me...should just anyone breed??? http://www.brightlion.com/InHope/InHope_en.aspx
I won't get into all the other reasons why, this should be enough.
For every person born in the U.S., 15 puppies are also born.
2,000 puppies are born each hour in the U.S.
Only 1 of 6 puppies finds a home through a humane society (national average).
Female dogs can breed as young as 6 months old (on average—depends on breed), and will continue to produce an average of 2 litters per year, with 6 to 10 puppies per litter. If each of these offspring is not spayed or neutered, this one fertile dog can theoretically produce more than 67,000 puppies in only 6 years.

Breeding is a big responsibility. Any pups you allow your dog to produce, you should be responsible for, for the life of each and every one of them. If you are not willing to take back a dog you placed 6 yrs ago because the people can't keep it any longer, you should not be breeding.
Unless you are breeding for the betterment of the breed, no you shouldn't breed. Only dogs and bit ches that have been health tested to reduce health issues should be bred.
What breed do you have and WHY do you want to breed it? Do you health test both male and female? All breeds have some breed specific health issues along with an array of other issues, do you have them checked before breeding? If not, the dogs should not be bred!

Most people realize how many dogs are out there, that don't have homes. AKC, the American Kennel Club, says that purebred dogs should only be bred to improve the breed. If this were the case, there wouldn't be so many dogs put down in shelters each year.

Because when you look at the number of innocent dogs that are put down daily in the shelters, it is obvious that most of the population who does breed, isn't doing it responsibly or following any kind of ethics in doing so.
The link below is to the AKC website and is about responsible breeding. Things included are ensuring your breeding dogs have something to contribute to the breed in order to better it, or at least maintain the breed standards. A breeder is responsible for all puppies he/she produces FOR THE LIFE OF EACH PUPPY and is willing to take one back in at any age, for any reason. They are a resource for those they sell the puppies to so that they will help at any time, for any reason to ensure the puppy has all it needs in the new home and the owners are properly educated. They health certify all their breeding dogs, have hips x-rays at the proper age (usually at least 2 yrs old) as well as eyes certified and any other thing that may be common in their specific breed. If any health issues are present, THEY DON'T BREED THAT DOG. They make sure the puppies are going to proper homes to families that can handle that specific breed. They also get outside trained professionals to help them not to be biased on the potential abiltiy for a dog to be of breeding quality. There's so much more... and most of the people here on this site aren't breeding responsibly. They want to have a litter to teach their children about the miracle of life-WRONG REASON. They want to make a quick buck-MEANS THE PUPPIES AREN'T LIKELY GOING TO GET THE VET VISITS, WORMING AND SHOTS because that cost money and takes away from their profit. Most of the people are just being selfish about it, period.

Hello,
Our little poodle passed away last year. He was an adoptee from SPCA (Singapore society of prevention of cruelty to animals). Our little boy Tonto was a pure-breed. He was blind in one eye. According to the SPCA people, Ton was abandoned as a puppy.
If people continue to breed dogs indiscriminately, and as non-professional breeders, we may be inbreeding a lot of undesirable traits and health weaknesses, which are especially enhanced with pure breed dogs. That means, more abandoned dogs like Tonto.
If you intend to do this because your friend/relative wants a dog of the same species, then, ask them to go check out SPCA. They have a lot of dogs, who may not be pure-breeds, but are also in need of loving homes. A dog is a lifetime commitment, as with any other pet, be it rabbit, fishes, birds or chinchilla. They are not to be treated like merchandise and sold. Every living thing has a right to a decent living on this planet, not humans. So, my advice is, instead of wasting time trying to breed your dogs, perhaps you can help out in the SPCA, get friends/family to care more for animals.
Sorry for being naggy but, having lived with Tonto for the past 12 years - I realize that dogs are definitely NOT disposable toys. In general, most folks are not being rude and mean. It is more that we feel that any living thing has a right to a good quality of life. It's the same with children, I always feel if you cannot afford the time and money, then dont have them. No point producing dysfunctional people - there are already enough of them in this world.
Okay, I have said my piece. If you need advice on dogs etc, I have a cousin who is a vet, who can help.
Love your dogs .... and other living things!

Because so many dogs/puppies wind up in the dog pound do to irresponsible people who breed thier dogs thinkin it'll produce a puppy or 2 not 8-9 puppies because they didn't research it and a dog has a certain amount of time in the dog pound befor they put the dog to sleep, and so many dogs are put to sleep a day that it makes people sick so when they hear somone is breeding thier dog it's cause for conflict.
