not only does it start them off learning to socialize in groups of their peers, it also gives them the basic learning fundamentals and ideas that they will take into Elementary school. Preschool is a great way to introduce structured learning at a young age. Children who go to preschool are more likely to socialize well with other children, while also earning higher test scores.

Preschool is very important because you start learning at such a young age that you are prepared for school. When I started kindergarten I read on a third grade level. There were students who had not attended preschool and did not know the alphabet and therefore were unable to read. They had to be tutored by some of the other students. I think this makes a student feel bad because they don't feel as smart as the other kids and sometimes can not keep up with the learning. I am only a second grader now, but I read on a 5th grade 8 month level and am a straight A+ student. I think preschool is the best thing for any kid.

Everything preschooling does can be done in other ways, socialisation the lot, and some parents may prefer to introduce these things themselves because home teaching at whatever level is very bonding and there is a big sense of family.

Where preschooling wins out is that it gets children ready for school. Personally I think that some level of exposure to preschool is a real help, even if you choose to enrol children a few months before they go to real school.

I do think preschool is very important for our young children. I have a 3 year old that will be 4 next month and he's been going to daycare ever since he was about a year in a half. He now goes to a Montessori child daycare/preschool. I so far like this place the best and they teach the kids so much and do a lot of fun activities. My son started at this place sometime this year 2006, I can't remember the exact month he started but he never knew his numbers or his ABC's and now he knows his numbers from 1-11 and he knows all his ABC's. I'm so proud of him and it's like how many 3 year olds do you know that actually know their numbers and their ABC's, not very many. I have a nephew that is 5 yrs old and he doesn't go to preschool nor does he know his numbers or the ABC's. So I really think going to preschool gets you ready for the real thing. I think he-(my son) is so used to being around different kids from different age groups and he learns just so much everyday. They go on field trips too. Being in the school environment at a young age just gives you so many opportunities to learn, have fun and be in the teacher student environment to learn what its like and to be around other kids. You learn to share and make friends. I like knowing that while I'm at work my son is being taken care of and learning so much. He surprises me everyday with something new.

If children are not in an environment with siblings or playdates then preschool should be considered. If a child has many siblings and the parents are active in playdates and working with them on the basics ABC's etc then preschool isn't necessary. I have 3 nieces and nephews and they did not attend preschool and they are now 9 and 7, 5 years old and loved kindergarten from day one and adjusted. I might note that they also spent time in their church daycare center.

I do agree that preschool will help the child, but not in the education department. The child will get plenty of education from preschool all the way through college, but preschool will help the child get emotionally developed for making friends and adjusting to a new enviorment with new rules. Hope I helped!

As a preschool teacher myself I can see the biggest difference in children who go to a preschool class and those who do not. One of the most important part is the socialization between children, all types of children. Things some of us take for advantage such as being able to share, play with more then one child, learning differences.
They also get fundamental knowledge pertaining to basic skills I think all children should know, and most do not. Like printing their names, using scissors correctly, learing there alphabet, numbers, and small formation of words. Children who attend preschool I notice to be more adaptable to kindergarten and more social. They also should learn respect and how to treat an adult as well as piers.
I myself have a nephew who does not attend preschool and I highly recommended him to be placed, some parents do not spend the aquired time needed teaching their child basic things they should know. what Im trying to say is, is basically gives the child a required amount of structure.
I hope I didnt confuse you Im a bit tired and finding myself rambling :)

it is never to early to start working out who we are. since the image we see in the mirror is a reverse of us the best way we learn about ourselves is through the reaction to us by other. the old saying that we see ourselves best in the faces of our friends easily starts in preschool. socializing also is a major factor as well as becoming comfortable in groups where competition is a part of function within a group - only one person gets to be first at anything- etc. It is also a good time for the child to start the gradual separation from the sometimes over protective web of being at home. With few exceptions the sooner a child can learn that there is a world other than home in which they much learn to negotiate the better their learning appreciation is and the easier school can be

Children need a place where they grow physically, intellectually, and emotionally. Preschools are good for that. They give children a chance to learn from peers and other adults. It makes children more rounded. It gives them more oppurtunities to learn then from just staying at home with family membors.

Many parents think they do a great job preparing their children for kindergarden, and they do. They teach their child their ABC's and 123's. They read to their child and take them to the park. Without social stimulation from other children they will lose out on many great aspects early on in life.

Montessori schools are just crap. Children do not need the stresses of everyday life that adults deal with.

Preschool is a great idea! It isn't necessary however. Preschool begins to prepare children for kindergarten with basic things like coloring and socializing with other children.
