Im 14 and I think I might have depression. I'm not sure though, I'm just going to list a few things...feedback is appreciated.
-I have ADD, and I take concerta, but I'm still not able to focus.
-Lately I've had trouble sleeping[could be a side effect of the concerta though]
-I probably have the lowest self esteem humanly possible.
-I don't know if this is a 'loss of interest' but since summer i was looking forward to joining my high schools swim team, and when i found out today that i had made the team, i just wasnt as excited as i thought i would be
-when im around my friends, i make jokes and laugh and stuff, but i dont have as much fun as i used to. they havent noticed a change or anything[at least i dont think so] because i dont feel like ive shown any.
-i get nostalgic a lot
-i often feel sad for no reason
-im very misunderstood and i tend to get too angry
-i feel hopeless sometimes.
-i feel like everyone around me is sucessful except for me
anyone know if this is depression?

Inattention, insomnia, poor self image, anhedonia (loss of interest in fun or excitement), feeling sad for no reason, hopelessness, irritability and self pity (if I'm reading you right) are all major symptoms of depression but major depression (or a lesser diagnosis) needs to be made by a health care professional.

Even if you have all of the symptoms of depression, they have to interfere with your functioning and/or cause you great distress to qualify as a disorder. I wouldn't jump to conclusions that you have an illness, but you would probably be best off seing a counselor to talk about these issues and get a professional opinion. You're on the right track getting help for yourself. Good luck!

Hate to say it hon, but yep, it sounds like the good old "D" to me. I've been there and done that. I just wish I would of spoke out like you have done at your age....You gooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean, at least you are self aware!! Take a note book and keep a daily journal to clarify your emotions, and also to give your therapist a daily/weekly/monthly rundown. The only way to get better is to ask for the help. There is no shame in asking for help, but there is shame in not getting the help. Maybe they can put you on something better than concerta, because meds will also make you prone to depression. I suggest talking to your dr, and also keeping the journal. Good Luck!!

It sounds like it might be. I am 14 too, so what I'm saying is from a peer's point of view. From someone who has lost friends to depression and now tries to stop that from happening again. So just bare with all of us, ok?

To me it looks like it might be, but like I said, I'm only 14 and have no training whatsoever. Do your parents know about all of this? If they don't and you feel like you can talk to them you should. If not see if you can take it to your school's guidance counselor. I know you're thinking "No way. I am NOT going to the counselor" but they know what they're doing. They've seen all of this before and they can tell you if it's anything to be worried about or not, and even help you get some help if it turns out you need it. They want to help you get through this kind of stuff and they won't mind if you come and talk to them and it turns out you're wrong either. They would rather catch this before it got to serious. But it looks like you've already caught it, it's just time to take care of it know. If you really don't want to take it to a counselor you could take it to anyone your really trust. Whether it is a family member or a teacher or a friend's parent, just anyone you feel comfortable talking to about this. They can help you decide what to do next and who you should talk to. They might even be able to come with you if you would feel better with them there. If things are getting really serious and you feel like you need to talk to someone right away you can always call hopeline ( http://www.hopeline.com/ ) and talk to someone there. They are trained to handle situations like yours and can help you figure out what to do. But remember it's also a teenager thing to go through a lot of the things on your list. You might want to get checked out anyway just to be safe, but it could just be hormones. Whatever happens, I know you can get through it.

of course. With melancholy you experience like doing easily no longer something yet sitting around and observing t.v. or only mendacity in mattress. Fatigue is an hassle-free symptom with the depressed.

It might be... but its ok to be depressed sometimes. Most teens go through that. However, here I am at 15 on some andidepressants and antipsycotics. So always take yourself seriously. Thanks for asking this. Its better to be careful than to wait until its too late
