Sweet milk is just white milk. In the country, at least in the country in the south, the old timers call plain white milk sweet milk. It's "sweet", as opposed to buttermilk, which is tart or sour. If the recipe called for "Eagle Brand", it would ask for sweetened condensed milk.

Okay don't pay any attention to any of these other guys, they are all obviously too young to know. Sweet milk is what the old timers call plain old milk. If a recipe calls for sweetened condensed milk it will say just that. If this recipe is old then it means plain milk.

If this is an old recipe, it means when the housewife used to milk the cow, and use the milk fresh. It would not be buttermilk or milk thats clabbered or left to sour. Today it would probably be Fresh whole milk or better still, milk from the dairyfarmer.
Sweet milk may also mean sweetened condensed milk, but I don't think so.

I agree with Ally. Sweet milk is just plain white milk. However, if the recipe says "sweetened milk" then it would be the sweetened condensed milk like Eagle Brand. This is usually on the baking aisle of the grocery store.

I learned the answer to this shortly after moving to the South.
Sweet milk is simply a term Southerners use for whole milk.
Don't klnow why and neigher does anyone I've asked. Some seem to think that it destinguishes whole milk from buttermilk.
