I recently built a 10 x 20 office loft and used double 2 x 8's. IO bloted them together with appropriate size carriage bolts. I avoided issues in inaccurate lengths by purchasing 12 ' planks or 10 ft span, and used the excess as bracing between the rafters. Then I installed 4 x 8 x 3/4 ply, and in this case, carpet.

Without knowing the support system at the perimeter you may have to add ledgers at an appropriate height to support the rafters,,, and/or support beams from the lower level floor?

I had to sink bolts into concrete about 8 inches to attach the ledgers to solid walls, then I also used contruction metal bracing to attach the beams to the ledgers. I spaced my double rafters at 16 inch centers for added stability and security.

You should contact your local building code department. The spans also depent on the type of wood you use. You should build the storage area with a 40 lb live load. If you span a 2 x 8 x 8 you will be safe as long as you run them the short span you will be fine.

Check the chart in the Uniform Building Code for floor joist spans. Be sure you don't use the one for residential spans since you say it's for a second level warehouse.
One thing you also need to consider, even if the floor can safely support the proposed weight, the floor span will sag if the floor joist are not big enough. Even if you comply with code, the floor can sag, you need to do it right and exceed the minimum code requirements.
