Some would argue that you can't because you are killing someone.

Yes. If you actually read the Bible it states that we are to obey the law of the land our government just as we are to obey His laws. If there were no law then we would all be in serious trouble, say like Iraq or how about Korea where the people are not allowed to move unless the Great One says they can. He rules supreme. Only TV is of him and his propaganda, nothing at all is seen by the people. No ads, no fast food, churches, no pictures or decorations on their walls in their homes besides his. Yes, law is God's. The difference is He gives us free will and we face the consequences if we do not obey the laws of the land as well as His laws. It's really a lucky thing and I thank God every day that I was born here and not another country where it may be so much worse. We have problems that's for sure. But, still. I have the right to speak my mind and say what I want and do what I want within reason. That's enough for me.

I honestly dont think you can; atleast you cant expect to have a clear conscience if you are. If you voluntarily become a person in society that can be put into a situation where they would have to end a person's life, they would be directly disobeying God's commandment that nobody should kill. Not always what people want to hear, but its the truth.

My friend was thinking of joining the police, but he couldn't because he beliefs against killing were so strong that he said he couldn't shoot someone.

I'm a Christian and I think there is a difference between shooting someone out of "hate" (murder)and doings ones job(police or soldier). But, he wouldn't be persuaded. And at least he has his principals.

good question .I think it's debatable .Especially if you define what is a Christian . the Police are somewhat akin to the roman guard. And you of course remember the guards relation to to the Christ .semms like the definition of Christian has changed greatly over the years in order for this to occur.

One of the few professions spoken against in the New Testament is that of being a lawyer. Very interesting reading . . .

Yes anyone can be a Christian if he does the following

1 John 5:13 tells us, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” God wants us to understand salvation. God wants us to have the confidence of knowing for sure that we are saved. Briefly, let’s go over the key points of salvation:

(a) We have all sinned. We have all done things that are displeasing to God (Romans 3:23).

(b) Because of our sin, we deserve to be punished with eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23).

(c) Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserved. His resurrection proved that Jesus’ death was sufficient to pay for our sins.

(d) God grants forgiveness and salvation to all those who place their faith in Jesus – trusting His death as the payment for our sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:1; Romans 8:1).

That is the message of salvation! If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are saved! All of your sins are forgiven, and God promises to never leave you or forsake you (Romans 8:38-39; Matthew 28:20). Remember, your salvation is secure in Jesus Christ (John 10:28-29). If you are trusting in Jesus alone as your Savior, you can have confidence that you will spend eternity with God in heaven!

I can see what could prompt this question. the truth is that yes, policemen can be christians aswell, because even though they may occasionally hurt people who do wrong, they keep many other people from getting hurt.
