Yes! Very much so. E Coli stands for Escherichia coli 0157: H7. This is a bacteria that lives in the soil and in the intestines of certain healthy animals. It can be transmitted through contaminated food or water and is considered a foodborne illness. However, it can be transmitted from person to person by fecal matter which is why someone with E. Coli shouldn't handle food. E. Coli usually causes a self-limiting gastroenteritis in healthy adults and will resolve on it's own in 3-7 days.
