Although I personally prefer not to go barefoot outdoors because I do not like the feeling of dirty, dusty feet, I do not have a problem with others doing it. The problem with today's society is that we spend so much time worrying about what others are doing. One time, my husband had the flu and he asked me to run to the store and get him a few things. He decided to ride in the car with me and then he decided to come into the store. He was wearing flannel pajamas and sneakers. You should have seen the looks he got! I was at the check out and the cashier didn't know we were together and she kept on making rude comments about him. I, obviously, had to set her straight (hee-hee).

The skin on the bottom of your feet can taken in more bacteria then most anywhere else in your body (except your hands). That's why a playplace for children won't allow them to be barefooted, they could catch a serious illness.

If I had seen that I would have gone up to that person and explained this. And then asked, despite the obvious health risk...what barn did you grow up in where you thought shopping barefooted would be anything more then showing how disgusting your manners are.

It depends.

Im a manager at a produce market, and it is acutually a health hazard to be barefooted within my store. Bacteria from the foot then travels onto the floor, and believe it or not, children enjoy sitting on the floor (gross I know). Children then like to put their hands on EVERYTHING in the store including themselves, their parents, and everything in between.

However, a boardwalk, no I dont see that being a problem. Wal-mart however could be held liable if that person stepped on a tack or something.

You raise an interesting issue.
All the people who said it's a health issue-well, the germs don't pole vault up from the floor. As for little kids-if their parents are allowing them down on the floor in a public place they have worse worries than people's bare feet (like people who SPIT).
Sure, it's no longer really socially acceptable but I think it's an aesthetic rather than hygienic issue.
This is just my opinion.

Maybe it's because they are jealous... Like "If I have to wear shoes, then so do they!" Or maybe they think they are too lazy to properly dress themselves. Lots of reasons probably. If it weren't a requirement to wear shoes, I would go barefoot most of the time myself. I love it.

Yes. Yes it is.

Face it. Human beings are just the teeny-tiniest step up from being filthy wild animals.

What seperates us from the animals? Tools? No. Chimps use tools. Language? Nope. Lots of animals use verbal communication.

What REALLY seperates us from animals? Footwear. No...seriously. There is NO animal that wears shoes. Think about it.

All that stands between a civilized Wal-Mart shopper and a savage beast forraging for berries and some really cool Chinese-made sunglasses on sale is that one is wearing shoes.

What ever happened to no shirt, no shoes, no service? There's a reason those laws were in effect. GERMS. I'm not a germ-o-phobe but heck if I'd go to a store barefoot, that's gross. Who knows what people track in from the outside on their shoes.

Ok, shhh, calm down. It is just something that most people are not used to seeing and they view it as inferior. Don't worry about it,it is the people giving the dirty looks problem, not yours. They will have to learn to let things be.

It looks so trashy because no one wants to see barefeet in a store especially when there is food around. Also, they can hurt themselves and try to sue the company.
