First of all...you should by all means keep the journal for the baby's first year!! It is such a wonderous year and you will want to remember every detail, I promise...and it is such a nice gift to give your child--perhaps for a special birthday or when they have a baby of their own--I have kept journals and baby books for all of mine (they keep getting better the more kids I have!) Here are some things that I have done for the books:
*I kept a pregnancy journal--recorded how I felt, what I craved, my dr. appointments, pictures of me in various stages of pregnancy, prospective names, etc.
*I used a binder type baby book so that I could add my own pages to pre-maid baby books. I added the following:
--A page with pictures of who thought I was having a boy on one side and a girl on the other
--A page (or two) for the baby's baptism (I included special cards from the Godparents, photos, the invitation, and the certificate.
--For each of the baby's first holidays, I collected tiny momentos...for instance, on 4th of July, I had a burnt sparkler stick; Father's Day, a swatch of the wrapping paper from his present; Thanksgiving, the wishbone; Christmas, a branch from our tree,...I'm sure you get the idea.
--A page honoring the bond between the baby and the other siblings (photos, drawings, and I wrote a poem)
--A page (or two, again) of the birth...lots of pics and things from the hospital--bassinet tag, id bracelets, booties, the tabs off the baby's first diaper, APGAR score card, feet prints, etc.
--I kept the labels and tags from the baby's first cereal, first sippy cup, first pair of shoes, first foods, first juices, receipts from the first trip to the store, etc.
--I also kept things some might find strange...I kept the umbilibal stump (I put it in one of those tiny zipper bags that extra buttons come in on new shirts) and the clamp. I kept band-aids from all the vaccines, eyelashes, baby hair that had been rub out (scotch tape on the crib sheet...viola!) first fingernail clippings, boogies :) and a penny that one of my children swallowed. In case you are wondering...no, no foreskin--lol!
--I added pages with special letters to the baby...like on their baptism day or 1st birthday...I even wrote them a "prediction" letter telling them how I thought they would grow up to be.
I have 4 kids and I can say honestly that one of my proudest achievements has been keeping up their baby books! It is no small feat...with as many small feet as I have, anyway!!
Good luck to you & Congratulations! I hope you create wonderful memories for you and your baby!!

You could scrapbook everything. We take belly pics once a month and I bought a little pregnancy calendar that we write stuff down in. When the baby is born, I am going to put all her ultrasound pics and my appt' reminder cards in a big book, along with all the belly pics. Just take lots and lots of pictures!

all the strange things you crave, and monthly weights (hones ones). Each milestone, like ultrasound, and first heatbeat on doppler. All the scary things the doc tells you, and all your fears about the delivery, this is something a daughter might find useful and reassuring when it comes time to have her own child! Also month by month belly photos to show how big you started out and how big the baby makes you!

I had a pocket calendar that I jotted all my appoinments down in and later put those in my journal. Also, any time that I was sitting, bored and doodled the possible names (you know to see what they looked like or whatever) I saved those things and put them in there too.

how you feel, if you are gaining a lot of weight, when you feel it move, if you play specific music for the baby what is it, did your feet swell? are you worried, afraid, happy, you might want to do photos from week to week of how big you are or are not getting. do you read to your unborn baby? what do you read to him or her?

weight gained, how far you are measuring, when you first feel the baby kick and hear its heartbeat, changes in your body - any new little thing the baby does once he/she is here, every little cute thing you laugh at or say ahh about.
congrats and good luck

what a good idea! i would put exactly what is developing in that week, how you were feeling, your cravings, what you did etc etc. that would be something for your child to keep all their lives.
