It doesn't really have anything to do with the Islamic faith other than the calender that Muslims follow for when their months begin and end. People have began using the crescent moon in the Uthmanian era.
Still Islam needs no symbols.
Peace.

Muslims have their own year with their own set of months, their month start when the crescent moon appears, continues as long as it appears, then it ends when it disappears. The reason Muslims care about this unique year system is that some of their most sacred acts of worshipping such as fasting (Called Saum in Arabic) which is fundamental in Ramadan (One of the Muslim months) but can be performed in any other time, and Pilgrimage (called Hajj) Which is only performed with defined acts on specific days of the year. Added after reading some other answers: This is why Crescent moon is important to us, but we don't pray for it or worship it or such stuff, it is all made up by some atheists who would never even consider thinking about believing. Star is of no importance in Islam. Also, Islam is a religion, not a faith. Good luck with your test. Added after reading some other answers: To Jesus our Lord, We DO NOT worship moon as our God or Stars as His children, as a matter of fact, we believe God has no Children, and we don't kiss an asteroid, we believe it is a stone that was brought down by God from heaven to clean our sins, if it doesn't, then try to explain why it turned black after coming white from heaven.
