You won't have to run to Canada, just claim yourself a Conscientious objector and you're clear. The link I added is Mr. Rangles original HR resolution he submitted. There are few exemptions, those being objector and health reasons, but then they will make you do civilian work. This includes all men and women including those in college (can't hide there this time). Truthfully I don't believe he wants a draft, but what if his new resolution passes and the passes by senate? You will all have to do your time. Read his resolution that was submitted once already and understand what is going on.
One last thing, if you served previously, they don't have to draft you. Read your enlistment papers they can just reactivate you if needed. We aren't excempt from this my friend.

There will always be cowards fleeing to Canada if a draft is reinstated. The Peace Corp will also notice an increase in applicants. At least the people going into the Peace Corp are still doing something useful. My brother will be eligible to be drafted if that happens. Serving in the military might be the best thing for him (assuming he returns home alive). I wouldn't wish for my brother to be drafted, but if he was, I would encourage him to serve rather than shirk.

I don't think legislation could ever pass. I ALSO don't think a draft would be a positive thing for our MILITARY as our military has changed GREATLY since the last draft.
It won't affect my family... my brothers and I are all over draft age... and have all served already. (I was recalled for Kosovo and Enduring Freedom before old age got me).
ONE thing I WANT to see if we restart a draft... is that WOMEN must be included !! We have passed SO much legislation that states that women can not be discriminated against... GOOD her's your Rifle sister !!
Seriously though... Rep. C. Rangel's proposed legislation on the draft would include "alternative civil service"... a great place for those unfit for military service to go fight wildfires, clean and serve in our National Parks, do Inner City work... whatever !
But I will FIGHT with lawsuits if the "New Draft" does NOT include women !!
Ps... I served with a NUMBER of women in my 15 yrs... and 98% were great, positive, and motivated sailors. My best pilot was a female...

A draft of any scale will affect everyone. This means the government is taking a huge chunk of the active working force and putting them into the military. (this means economically everybody would feel the sting) Oh yea, anybody with a loved one would be feeling this sucker to the bone. As for Canada, that is anyone's guess. I think the war would have to be right for me to go willingly into the military. I might try to get a deferment or release but if that fails and we are still in Iraq, I might seriously consider a brief stay in a foriegn country.

Yes,it would affect my family.I have a 19 year old son. But,if the rules for the draft would be the same as they previously were,he could get out of it.He is the only male child in the family, the family name would end with him if he didn't have any sons of his own,and we are Mennonite. But,I know my son and he wouldn't use any of these excuses to get out of serving his country. He would never think of being a coward and flee to Canada,he would do what he was called to do.

The draft is in basic terms not reinstated. in actuality, the militia particularly does not elect everyone on board who isn't dedicated. If there's a scarcity of attainable workers, then there are various the right thank you to extend the militia. one million. presently 2 an prolonged time is the time for retirement, at 38 a guy or woman remains very necessary, improve the time to 30 years. 2. do away with intense 12 months 10 12 months, meaning people who're in a rank for extra advantageous than 10 years are discharged, enable those human beings to serve. 3. substitute the actual standards for workers. not all jobs require the burden standards that are in place. Who cares if a pay clerk is 10 kilos over weight? it particularly is not real looking. of direction a warrior desires to be particularly extra wholesome. in the time of my era many adult adult males have been drafted, drugs have been rampant and a great variety of adult adult males died. It grew to become right into a horror and it wasn't a conflict that we could desire to repeat.

No, this draft will not affect my family. I served 12 years in the Army and my husband served 9 years. I served my country already, as everyone should. Will people flee? Sure they will, because they want everything this country has to offer but don't want to earn it.

Draft in the US won't be soon. Sure enough Bush is smart enough to withdraw before the draft. If not, my family won't be affected much, my brothers and i have planns for military careers already, so we'd be going to the military anyway.
(if you are talking about another country, then I'm sorry.)

There won't be a draft. It's just a political ploy to stir up the debate about the war. If called we would go, but I come from a family of skilled labor that would be of better service building the tools of war.

If a draft is reinstated, it won't affect my family, at least not right away. At least not until my nephews (who are still young children) reach the age of 18.
I'm the oldest of five children, and four of us have already served in the military. My youngest sibling is a USMC officer, and he's in Iraq right now.
