I take my little one out in the cool night air when she's coughing really bad. It seems to help her more than steam. Ask the doctor for his recommendations on a decongestant.

Try propping the pillow end of his bed up so he is sleeping on a slight incline. I fold up a throw blanket and put it under the mattress. Also, a vaporizer or cool mist humidifier may help. Vicks vapor rub on the chest and back. Some Tylenol cold and cough. Good Luck!!!!! Hope he feels better soon.

Vicks vapor rub, with some Robitussin. You may want to keep using the Robitussin for a couple of days and nights for it to work well.

A generous dose of Vick's vapor rub on his chest and a little under his nose before he is laid down to sleep. He may fuss for a while, but when the vapors get into his chest it will help to break up the mucus and dry out his passages. My Mom and Grandmom used this on me for as long back as I can remember and I use it on my kids, it works great. By the way, I'm 48 years old, so it's a proven method as far as I am concerned.

One dose at night time isn't going to do it. You need to give him the meds on a regular basis for them to work. Have you tried mucinex? They have one for coughs. It has a cough suppresant and guiffenesine (sp) in it to help break up the mucus and help him get it out with out hacking and cough so bad.
Like others suggested, use a humidifier or vaporizer and put baby vicks on him. (It's a milder version for little kids) I hope you find relief for him soon. We just went through the same thing with our daughter and the medicine 4 times a day helped her in two days.

You need to be careful with the use of Vick's..it is extremely strong for a baby. But, make sure you prop baby up..(place something under the head mattress so she stays elevated)...cool mist is suppose to be good too..humidifery..
.
poor guy...it's hard enough for us to handle a bad cough, just imagine how hard it is for him.

Offer him a drink. Make sure he is not too warm. Run a humidifier in his room if you have one. Or try running a hot shower and have him hang out in the bathroom for a few minutes.

A warm vapor bath always does the trick for me. Johnson and Johnson makes it, it works wonders for my little ones!
