I am going on a boat for 9 days and we plan on getting live lobster from some of the fishermen on an island. We plan on trading stuff for the lobster. My question is how do you prepare and store the lobster to eat down the road. Can we just snap the tails off and freeze them or do we have to pare boil them first before freezing them. We don't have a large pot to boil the entire lobsters. We are looking at getting about 25 of them.

i don't have that much room to store the entire lobster so I need to know if it is safe to remove the tail from the live lobster and freeze it right away or is this unsafe to do??
How do the markets do it??

Fresh Lobster keeps well on ice, but not for long.
Your best bet is to go fully prepared to handle the job.
Good Luck..and good eating. Take butter&salt.

Yep, what some have said about the newspaper or seaweed in the fridge is the right approach. Clean out your crisper drawers, line it with the damp newspaper or seaweed, put the lobsters in there. I had some Maine lobsters sent to me and that was the suggested method for keeping them alive for a couple days until ready to use. Of course, they came packed with coldpacks and a bunch of seaweed. I pulled mine out of the crispers two days later to finally cook and they were still alive.
