Female dogs don't have periods like female humans. This is called a heat cycle in female dogs and usually occurs at the age of 7 months to 1 year of age.At this time a female can get pregnant if bred by a male dog.

Dogs can have their first "heat" when they are about 6 months old. The heats then usually come every six months after that. Sometimes, the females can have what are called "split seasons" when the heat comes at the 3 month mark instead of at the 6 month mark.

They come in heat around 6 mo to a year normally the first time. There are always exceptions to the rule. I had a female come in heat at 4 1/2 mo and one that didn't have her first heat until 20 mo. I have one right now waiting on her first heat at 14 mo. And you should wait to breed them if that is what you want to do until they are 18 mo to 2 yr.

most dogs will get their heat when they reach 6-8 months. then when they get it, it will last for about 3 weeks. from the time she has heat you want to keep her away from all males unless you want to breed. good luck.

They don't have periods like humans.
Female dogs usually go into heat around 6-9 months of age and usually twice every year.
It doesn't matter what breed they are.
If you don't want to have to deal with blood and un-wanted litters; please spay your dog.
