I have long dark brown hair that I trim every once in a while. I use Herbal Essances Body Envy shampoo. I normally tie my hair up in a ponutail because haveing my hair down bothers me because I am a very active person. Does putting my hair up cause the split ends? Also only after a few days of trimming my hair I get more slipt ends, please help!

I have waist length hair, which is trimmed on a regular basis. I also wear it up a lot.
What are you using to tie it up with? If it is ordinary elastic, that will damage the hair. Use proper hair ties.
I agree with those that said a wide tooth comb. That is all I use and have used for many years. Also I agree with those that said have a professional trim your hair.
Your hair and finger nails can reflect on your general health. Are you drinking enough fluids? Are you eating a balanced diet with good protein?
You must also use a good shampoo and (complimentary) conditioner. Make sure you work the conditioner all the way to the ends. Dont (like someone I knew) rinse the conditioner out so much that your hair is squeaky, this is removing it all. Comb out your hair before you wash it and then gently towel it and use the wide tooth comb ( they are sometimes called rakes LOL) to get any knots out. To remove the knots, start at the bottom of it.
If you are in an air conditioned environment, that can also dry your hair out.
You can give your hair a weekly "hot" oil treatment as well.
Your hair "changes" every 7 years, so this could be a stage it is going through.

Well, honestly, putting your hair up is not what is causing the split ends. Its when you start pulling it down from it being up. You stretch out your hair or even break off your hair from doing this with your scrunchy (or whatever you use to keep your hair up). However, you can make it stronger by getting a different type of shampoo. Herbal Essance is really just a bunch of wax to your hair so it doesn't clean all the way out when you wash it so it usually is the main cause of the split ends. So keep your hair down a little more, but you can still put your hair up, just make sure you get a different shampoo. If you want more tips you can always go ask a stylist at your nearby hair cutting place. Well I hope I helped. God Bless!

hmmm thats weird. usually hair starts to split when u straighten it or use a lot of hair products. ponytail woudlnt cause split ends at least i dont think. some people jsut naturally get split ends very often. maybe trim ur hair more often or change the shampoo. they have the once that prevent split ends. try that and see if it works. or ask ur hair dresser when they htink about it. oh and try not to blow fry ur hair if u do. that usually causes split ends as well. good luck :)

The best product for split ends I have found is
Humectress by Nexus. It can be put on just shampooed hair, dry hair, etc. A little dab will do you and it goes a long way. Great great product for split ends, dry damaged hair, and just an overall good nutrient for healthy hair.

make sure you have enough cut off when you get a trim ,alot of girls only get a half inch cut off & that doesnt take the hair up past the splits. try to have it trimmed every 6-8 weeks , be sure to use hair bands without any metal on them because they snag the hair ..try the ones that are seam-free or the all clothe ones , and try using a leave-in conditioner like Paul Mitchell's "the cream" hope this helps !

Who trims your hair?
Do you do it yourself, or does soeone you know do it? If so, get it done professionally. If your scissors are dull or are not being used correctly it can actually cause more split ends. Ponytail holders may cause them sometimes, too. Instead, try using clips or barrettes to hold hair back, or use a half-ponytail. Make sure you condition your hair regularly and don't flat-iron, blow-dry, or curl it often, because any type of heat treatment is damaging.

You can't repair split-ends you have to cut them off. But, to keep from getting them use a Big Tooth comb. Brushes and bad shampoo are usually the culprits. Condition your hair regularly with a professional brand of conditioner like Nexxus Humectress. I had this problem with my long hair too but, when I changed to combing my hair with a big toothed comb instead of brushing it, my hair stopped splitting and breaking off. I still blow dry, flat iron and curl my hair whenever I want but the new comb is what did the trick for me. It looks like a big comb with 6 or 8 fat teeth. You can buy them anywhere hair accessories are sold.

sweet lady, when you tie your hair up there will be undue wear at the site of the hair tie, barette, (goddess no) rubber band, hat, bandanna, natural wear according to your habbit. Shampoo won't make a difference. It is all about wear patterns.
If the splits bother you, trim them yourself, selectively, or revel in your beauty, wild sweet lady hair and all.

All of the split ends need to be cut off, otherwise they will just continue to split. Also, try using Tresseme products. They are great.
Putting your hair up can cause split ends. Try using a scunchie or all elastic hair ties without the metal. Hope that helps.

Do you blowdry, curl, or flat iron it? that can cause split ends. Everyone gets split ends eventually, I would just moisturize it better and get it trimmed more often.
