Anything with a stomach and bowel, will develop gas from time to time. The occasional vapor cloud is not a reason for alarm. If your cat seems to be having a severe problem, like steady, peristent, like three or four in the last half hour, I would say that he probably ate something that didn't agree with him.

I feed my cats Royal Canin dry (down all the time) and Friskies cans (morning and evening). I keep down two types of Royal Canin. I use the Royal Canin Persian - it's high fiber to prevent hairballs and does wonderful things for coats. I also keep down some Royal Canin Baby Cat for my seniors who have a hard time digesting their food and keeping their weight up. They drop the occasional BOMB, but it isn't a constant thing.

Yes it is bad. If we get bad gas there is something wrong. Usually something we have eaten. You need to do some serious reevaluation of what you are feeding him. Make certain you feed a premium food like Eukanuba, or Nutro Max. If you do switch foods do it slowly over a period of about 7 days. Also make certain he isn't getting any table food. It often doesn't agree with animals.

If after all of this the gas is still persistant then take him to the vet.

Talk to your vet about your cat's diet. perhaps there is an ingredient that the cat doesn't digest properly. Too much fiber can also cause gas, just like in humans.
