No matter how much you describe your dog's symptoms no one on YA can diagnose your dog's ailment. Even if you do get "advice" how do you know who is right and who is wrong. What if you follow the advice given here and it gets worse Exercise common sense and take her to the vet.

ok i am not a vet but i have been in the animal business for 25 yrs and i am also a groomer. when i get a dog that is brought into me for grooming with the same problem, then i use a hypo-allergenic shampoo and then i use aveeno to help with the itchies. if she does not have fleas, then the problem is from the food you are feeding her. labs are natorious for dry skin and for getting this kind of skin condtion. the thing to do first is to bathe her in a hypo shampoo, then use the aveeno shampoo for the skin. let the aveeno sit for about 4-5 min. then after yu rinse her then use pure aloe on the dry spots and the red areas. the other thing that you will have to use is an e-collar to keep her from chewing anymore. i have a dog right now that has the same problem, and the thing that i do to help him is bathe him once a week with the hypo shampoo and with the aveeno. then i use a very mild condtionor on him and then i blow dry him, he also uses the e-collar and that helpsalot. i have been doing this for the past 2 weeks and he looks like nothing has happened to him. he came to me with the worst red skin ever that i have seen on a dog. he chewed himself raw left bald patches all over his body. now after 2 weeks of intense bathing and shaving the areas, he looks 100% better. now if you do this then you will have t shave the areas that you are trying to heal. she will look weird but i will tell you she will feel better. good luck.

Not a vet but years of rescue. Problems with the coat/skin you are describing can indicate a underlying medical cause. Loss of hair and sensitive to petting tells me this dog needs to see a vet.
It can probably wait until Monday and not urgent at time. It could be a nutritional situation but can also indicate a need for complete bloodwork and exam. I would not begin to diagnose over the net, sight unseen. No vet would either.
Call her vet Monday.

Not a vet (and no reputable vet is really doing to diagnose your dog on these boards sight unseen) but start with changing your dog's food. Perhaps your dog has an allergy to wheat - what are you feeding your dog? Buy a quality dog food for your pet like Artemis ( http://www.artemiscompany.com ) . Then add a supplement of Salmon Oil (either by pill or in liquid form) to your dog's kibble. This will help condition the skin.
Bathe your dog in an oatmeal bath and rinse with a mixture of water and Apple Cider Vinegar. That will bring some comfort.
Treat your dog monthly with a topical flea/tick med. like Frontline, Advantage, or my preference, Revolution.
Hope she feels better soon. My dogs love their oatmeal shampoo and ACV rinse. It brings instant relief. Good luck!

My cat had a real problem with very dry skin and my vet had me bath him in Alpha-Keri a human bath oil that you can pick up at a drug store in the beauty department. You can use it every few days. If the dog is clean you can just apply
a mixture of a cap full to a gallon of water. It
helps heal and mosturize the skin.
I hope this helped.

She needs a full dermatologic exam at your veterinarians. This could be a derm problem but this could also be indicative of a endocrinology disorder.

Well, those dogs need to be brushed once a day. you gan also give it a bath with human shampoo for dry and itchy scalp. If that doesnt work go to a vet. she also might be alergic to something new in your house.Good Luck!
