My fiance wants me to have a white gold 1 caret solitaire ring but I like the plain gold better. Which do you think will look best? I have light skin. Does my ring have to match his? Is it ok for his wedding ring to be white gold and mine to be plain gold?

You're going to be wearing this ring for a long, long time, hopefully for the rest of your life, so for heaven's sake, get what you like! A good bet is to think about the jewelry you wear now, the stuff you find yourself grabbing again and again because you prefer it and it flatters you (watch, earrings, necklaces, etc.) If it's mostly yellow gold, then that's probably what you should choose in a wedding ring.

And, no, there's no reason in the world that your two rings need to match. You are two different people, with two different styles, which is a great thing, and should be celebrated. (by the way, my fiancee chose an antique styled yellow gold band, and I chose a more modern styled white gold one. we have the same psalm inscribed in our rings, which unites our two very different styled rings.)

Good luck, and congrats!

White gold is popular now and I personally think it is better looking than regular gold. Yes his ring should also be of the same metal as yours. It doesn't have to be identical to your design, but it should be the same metal. I do not think his should be regular gold and yours white gold. Tacky. You guys will take pictures of your rings on your wedding day. Think about it...they won't match. I think it would look weird, personally...but if that is the only agreement you too can come up with then so be it. You can always buy something else later.

If you like plain gold better, get plain gold. I have a white gold wedding band and am very unhappy with it. White gold isn't really white -- it's most likely covered with a very thin layer of another metal - I think it's Rhodium (?). The coating wears off over time, and the ring takes on a yellowish hue.

I have a platinum engagement ring and am waiting for my 5-year wedding anniversary and am getting my wedding ring reset in platinum. If you can afford platinum, get platinum instead of white gold.

I also think it's OK if your wedding bands don't match or coordinate. My husband and I have entirely different rings - we bought what we liked best. You will hopefully be wearing the ring for the rest of your life, so get something you love!!!

A ring is a symbol of your love and commitment to each other and will be worn on your hand for a LONG time. With that being said, you will be wearing this ring forever. I think it is important to get the metal that you prefer. You definitely don't want to dislike the ring or worst — resent your husband-to-be for choosing something that you didn't like.

Your ring definitely does not have to match his...my ring is 18K white gold and my husband's is tungsten with a 14K gold strip. We both have what we want and it works out great.

Good luck in choosing your ring. It will work out! :-)

I believe stuff like that should come purely from the heart! There are no rules of what kind of ring you should have! I personally love the white gold and I personally think it would seem like a closer bond to have matching rings, but like I said, a decision like that should be made from the heart! Hope that helps you out!!!

I have white gold and love it. You should know though that you have to get it re-plated every year or so because it starts turning yellow gold. Just make sure you get a warranty from wherever you buy it so they cover the cost. No, your rings don't have to match. Just get your fiance whatever he likes. My husband got titanium. Good luck and congratulations. Happy wedding planning!

I like yellow gold better, too. No, your rings do not have to match.

yes its okay for his ring to be white gold & yours to be gold ... white gold also looks like platinum which is more expensive he may want you to have the white gold for that reason ... my wedding band is gold while my husbands is white gold.

have him get you what you want. No, your ring doesn't have to match his, but it looks better if you want pics of the rings on your hands...although those can always be B/W.
