A BOSTON! I have a three year old Boston Terrier and they are the cutest dogs. I love mine very much, he has quite a personality. Boston's make good companions and they are very intelligent, mine learned very quickly. My boston even adjusted well when we got a cat. My cat had kittens about a little over a month ago, and he loves playing with them. Bostons are a very good choice in my opinion.

You have to take also into account what health problems each breed can have. I know a pug is not an English Bulldog, but has a pushed in nose like one. English Bull have have respitory problems, so I'm guess due to the simular build pugs may as well.
I know an English Bull can't swim due to the massive shoulder mass, they sink. A friend of mine used to raise then would put a life jacket on her dog and then he could swim. I don't know if it's the same with pugs or not.
Boston Terriers are a nice breed of dog as well. Also called the "Boston Bulldog". My friend also has one of those, very sweet natured dog, but cold all the time. She likes to hide under the armchair which is warm underneath.
Her Boston has digestive troubles. I would suggest talking to a breeder, one who's been in the business for years and knows what their talking about. They can tell you the good and bad qualities of their breed.

Well i would go for the pug they snort but its kind of cute. Terriers arent always ppl dogs and sometimes theyre the same around dogs too. I have a sheltie which is a min border collie and she is great. She doesnt shed is very smart house trained and well mannered. I think you should look into them in my experience theyre great. Theyre long haired so they require some occasional grooming but really not much I think i did my dog a year ago and she looks fine still. Other ppl have also told me their great. So good luck to you

I take it that you don't want a second lab then; (my thought is it might be better to have two dogs of the same breed rather than two of differing breeds but perhaps not?).
It would be better to ask a vet or dog breeder/owner for advice on this, especially when considering bringing together two mismatched dogs (in terms of size, possibly temperament too).
Pugs' shedding is probably not as bad as some dogs such as long haired collies or german shepherds but they may not be appropriate for you, depending on your expectations.

Do you want the new puppy to be hyper? 'Cause Pugs are a pretty hyper breed. Bostons are more laid back. I'd personally get a Pug, because I'd like a dog I could play with and not tire out.

I had a pug for a very short while. She was super cute, but could never potty train and shed so much you'd think we had ten. I had to vaccume every day because of that dog, not to mention cleaning her piles of stinky poop. We ended up giving her to my sister in law who lived on a farm and had a dirty house anyway.
I've potty trained 4 other dogs in my lifetime and never had problems like I did with her. But that's just my experience, if you want a pug go for it.

Be very careful about the heredity of the pup you buy be cause they are notorious for RED MANGE or Demodetic MANGE and it doesn,t show up until they are around a year old then it is a horrible life for you and the poor pup. This mange is horrible and the treatment is Soho costly. There is no cure for it only a continuous treatment of salves, ointments, dips, shots and medication for life.I have purchased 2 in 2 different states and both had it.Oh my it was horrible!!!Also neither can have babies so you can,t have babies if you wanted to.They both require C-Sections.The vet first told me that they both needed to be euthanized.I treated them and gave them to some rich people that wanted to give them long term care and have them spaded.

I read that the pug has the desirable big dog personality in a smaller package.
