We have a 6 month female who has always been well received by other dogs. Recently, even dogs she has known for months are snarling and barking at her, but it doesn't look like her behavior has changed. We are wondering if she could be going into heat and that is why? Yes, we have an appointment to get her spayed, and our vet told us that heat wouldnt' happen till 8-10 months and we had time. We are being responsible, but we are just wondering why she went from being loved to hated in a matter of a week. Mostly we are wondering if it is to do with how she acts (playful) or if heat could be the reason.

Usually when they are coming in heat, the other dogs are more friendly, not less friendly to them. There must be some other reason for their behavior. Dogs can come in heat before six months. Your vet should know this.

It most definately could be that she is going into heat. Another thing is that dogs can sense when something is wrong, as can cats.. If another animal around them is sick, they will act out, and push it away. (think momma bird pushing the bad egg out of the nest.) They have a 6th sense about these things.. best to keep them from getting in fights for now, and make sure to have her checked at her appointment. If she shows any sign of illness, take her in right away!
