Turkey is safe when cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 °F as measured with a food thermometer. Around 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Place in a preheated 325 °F oven.

Roasting will take about 15 minutes per pound if the turkey is not stuffed. Stuffed turkeys require an additional 1/2 to 1 hour cooking time.

Whether you're a novice cook or a seasoned pro, this will help you roast a tender, juicy, picture-perfect turkey every time. It's easy with the Butterball Open Pan Roasting Method.

Place thawed or fresh turkey, breast up on a flat rack in a shallow pan, 2 to 2-1/2 inches deep.
Brush or rub skin with oil to prevent the skin from drying and to enhance the golden color.
Insert oven-safe meat thermometer deep into the lower part of the thigh muscle, but not touching the bone. When thigh is up to temperature and if turkey is stuffed, move thermometer to center of stuffing for stuffing temperature.
Place in a preheated 325°F oven.
When the turkey is about two-thirds done, loosely cover the breast and top of drumsticks with a piece of lightweight foil to prevent overcooking the breast.
Use this roasting schedule as a guideline; start checking for doneness 1/2 hour before recommended end times:

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THE TURKEY IS DONE?

Net Weight (in pounds) Unstuffed (in hours) Stuffed (in hours)
10 to 18 lbs 3 to 3-1/2 hours (unstuffed) 3-3/4 to 4-1/2 hours (stuffed)
18 to 22 lbs 3-1/2 to 4 hours (unstuffed) 4-1/2 to 5 hours (stuffed)
22 to 24 lbs 4 to 4-1/2 hours (unstuffed) 5 to 5-1/2 hours (stuffed)
24 to 30lbs 4-1/2 to 5 hours (unstuffed) 5-1/2 to 6-1/4 hours (stuffed)

The best turkey I have ever eaten was a stuffed Butterball that weighed about 18 lbs. My uncle used just plain old Stove Top Stuffing. He cooked it for 12 hours at 275 degrees. Mmmmm!!!

P.S. Don't forget to take out the Giblets.

The package insert from my Butterball says 18 - 22 lbs. Unstuffed should be cooked at 325*F for 3and1/2 to 4 hours.
I always use thier guidelines, and it always turns out perfect.
Good luck and enjoy.

The rule is 15 minutes cooking time per pound. Multiply 15 by 20 and that's how long you should cook the turkey. Since you aren't using stuffing try cutting uo two sticks of butter and laying them on top of the turkey. This will make your turkey juicy as well as golden brown.

325 degrees at 20 minutes per pound. If you have a meat thermometer put in the breast portion but not touching bone, and make sure it's 160 degrees to be sure it isn't undercooked. Let it sit for 15 minutes out of the oven before carving it.
Happy Thanksgiving to you!
