i wouldn't say its abnormal, but it is a little disturbing.....
kids who act out like this are reflecting what they see in their environment. now i'm not suggesting that the parents sit around flinging poo....but if they are aggitated at changing time, baby will think this is the proper response and start acting out in this way. Babies are innocent. they do not try to stress us out and they only want LOVE.
hitting, etc., is another example of the child reflecting how they think they should be treated. at the age of 1, the child needs to be cuddled and forgiven for any "bad " behavior. They only want to make us happy and if we react in a negative way to normal circumstances, they too will think this is right and want to hurt themselves and others around them.

My children never did anything like that. I'm not saying that other kids haven't done that, but I haven't experienced anything like that. It is disturbing behavior. The child seems to be angry about something. Has a big change occured in his household? Sometimes children don't react well to change and they will tend to do things out of the ordinary. Also, is your nephew seeing others hit, slap, etc.? If he is around this all the time he will most likely pick it up. I think parents first mistake is thinking they can do whatever they want and say whatever they want and it won't have any affect on their children. It has a huge affect. Kids at that age really listen whether good or bad and they will pick up good or bad. It is up to the parents to break this bad behavior. Are they rewarding their child with laughter when he does it? Or is he getting punished with privileges taken away such as favorite t.v. shows, favorite toys taken away, or time out? If they are praising him for his bad behavior, then he probably won't stop. I have young kids. I know from experience. They have to teach their child right from wrong and not give in to his tantrums or bad behavior.

No, that's not normal. Normal one year olds don't hit, bite, slap, or purposefully touch their own poop. As far as screaming and putting hands over his ears, I can't say that it's abnormal. He really should get checked out, and maybe have a behavioral specialist observe him in his home setting.

What do you mean throws his poop? Does he did his hands in it?Then try to get rid of it? Little kids are facinated by there pamper and what is in it. At one I find this hard to believe that he is throwing his poop out of maliciousness. As far as the fighting it is perfectly normal, they do not like to be laid on their backs for a change. By the way my daughter tries to finger paint with hers. Good luck. Also duck when he throws it.

Yuk! Kids can do some outrageous things sometimes.....most of the time it stops by itself.Sometimes however,it is wise to ask the doc about certain behaviors.
Could it be fear?Maybe a reaction to a particularly painful bowel movement he had before...or even more scary, molestation or abuse?Im not implying that this has happened but,its not unheard of...
This best thing to do would bring it up to his pediatrician.

sounds like this is his way of throwing a tantrum. he shouldn't be allowed to do this. he is exhibiting very violent behavior. i would put him in time out when he misbehaives. if he puts his hands over his ears constantly he could have an ear infection, which can be very painful.

Children are for sure strange.. but that seems a bit odd.. I would think that would have to be learned.. but then again i am not a professional.. Maybe the child simply hates his diaper changed all together..

It's normal...if he's a monkey. I would be concerned about this. His parents should talk to his pediatrician. I've known children who have pooped in their diapers and smeared it around, but not out of anger.

Ugh, its kind of normal for little kids to have tantrums, fits, etc. But throwing poop? I'd have that checked out.
