Over the past few weeks I have not been able to sleep. It started when I began a new job and I think I was just thinking a lot at night. I am not stressed over anything else, and now I am quite comfortable in the job. What is keeping me up at night is the worrying of not being able to sleep! Does that make sense? I am tried as crap, but just lay there obseesing about not sleeping. I am now questioning my own sanity. I dread laying in bed and knowing how tired I will be the next day. I have tried tylenol p.m., chamomile tea, no caffiene, covering up the alarm clock...ALL the pointers they give you on "insomnia sites" I don't have a Dr.'s appt till next Wednesday =( All day long I obsess about how that night will be and if I will sleep at ALL. That fear is what is keeping me awake. God, I hope this makes sense to someone. I am getting by on 3 hours or less now...Anyone else relate? Any pointers??

I do this often...I have tried the OTC meds. They help a while maybe....
I either have to exercise to the point of physical exhaustion and simply pass out...or I'll have a large hit of NyQuil...either time I find a book I am not very interested in or one that is enormously complex; thus, I pay attention to the book and not on the fact that I am tired to the point of being furious.
Talk to your Doctor...I have not had much luck with anything except the narcotics...which, of course, are worse than the NyQuil.
I can only empathize with you and tell you to get inventive...anything to get your mind off off of being tired.

I suffer from insomnia. It is horrible. there are some nights when I don't even get three hours of sleep. On nights when i have a lot of meetings at work I find it even more difficult to get to sleep. I have been prescribed ambien cr, but I find that even with the medication I still wake up prematurely. It does help me to fall asleep though. You could try some otc sleep meds until your dr.s appt (tylenol pm, mucinex pm, etc). Also, I find that if I read or watch tv before bed it helps me to fall asleep. Sometimes I even count...1, 2, 3,4,5. That is helpful for me as silly as it sounds. I think it works because I am distracting myself from worrying and fro,m the fact that I am not asleep and should be.

Thinking often at night when one should be sleeping well, stems from anxiety. It may not necessarily be worry, but an excess of planning at an improper time.

I know exactly how you feel. It's impossible for you to shut your mind down at night to sleep no matter what you try. I use to take NyQuil just to try and get to sleep. The doctor prescribed sleeping pills but they made me feel even more tired. I had a prescription for Zanax to only take during the day but I take it before I go to bed and I sleep like a baby. It's a bad habit according to my doc. but I feel like you...I hate laying there waiting for sleep to come. Don't know if you have tried this but try taking a nice warm bubble bath before bed and use a fan at night for the noise. The fan helps me concentrate on the soft, steady hum instead of all the things going on in my brain. Good-luck and good-night. Sleep tight.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

please just get to sleep. you don't want to be going to the doctors and get some xanax.....next thing you know, your hoooked and having serious mental problems. just go to sleep. read a book. take a bath. dont eat 4 hours prior. force yourself. i dont care. as much as exercise, working, eating right is a must. enough sleep is 10 times crucial. without enough sleep our bodies shut down and we are no different than a zombie. plelase go to sleep.
