I had this for a test a few weeks ago. Which of the following is most important when taking a rectal temperature?
A. rinse the thermometer under water before inserting
B. ask the patient to stand up and bend over
C.insert the thermometer 2 inches into rectum
D. hold the thermometer in place while taking temperature

D is most important. If the patient moves while it's in, it could tear the intestine.
