Contradictions, incongruity with known facts, fantastic stories with no evidence to support them, requirement of logical somersaults in order to reconcile all of these things. Not to mention historical evidence that savior gods before Jesus had striking similarities to him, pointing to the conclusion that the gospels copied from such gods as Mithras, Horus, Dionysos, Krishna, and many others.

There is truth, and there is Truth.
Small t truth is factuality. The grass is green, the sky is blue, etc. These things are accurate statements. They are "true."
Then there is capital T Truth. The ineffable experience of reality. The wisdom that a few people have known from time immemorial.
The Bible contains little that is small t true. It contains some things, when interpreted correctly, that are capital T True.
Letting go of the insecure notions that make people believe that it is important whether or not everything in the bible is factually true, we're able to see that it does contain some real Truth. It restates the same message that we hear from mystics and wise men, from the Tao Te Ching, the Dhammapada, the Bhaghavad Gita, etc.
"You are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.... He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life" (2 Cor. 3:3-6).

How many reasons do you want?
The bible says God created man and animals all at once. Science says it took billions of years.
The bible says God created the earth before he created a sun and moon. Science says not so.
The bible says that insects have four legs. Science says they have six.
The bible says the sun stood still in the sky. Science says that would cause a global cataclysm.
The bible says the Egyptians pursuing Moses and his followers were drowned in the Red Sea. Archeologists have failed to find the bones, chariots, weapons, etc. in the Red Sea.
The bible says Moses and his people wandered the wilderness for forty years. Archeologists have failed to find evidence of this.
The bible says Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem for a census. Historical documents claim censuses were done in a different manner.
The bible says Herod slaughtered the male infants in an effort to eliminate Jesus. History recorded by other people of the time say nothing of that event happening.
The bible says the sky became dark for hours, an earthquake shook the land, and corpses reanimated when Jesus died. History recorded by other people of the time say nothing of that event happening.
That's only the tip of the iceberg.

Because the bible said the world was created in seven days, and in those seven days, it does not mention dinosaurs once. Also, animals HAVE evolved over time. And because I think that the idea that a guy could stuff two of every single animal on a wooden boat is simply ridiculous. I could go on, but I don't have the energy.

The bible was written by "men" in power for other men in a time when patriarchal rule was the way it was.
now that women are recognized as being equal to men its hard to belive in something that alows men to contain there wives. The church has approved and encouraged wife beatings.. The church wrote and destributed and taught the bible.
The bible is a way in which men could corrupt or influence other men.
I believe that were the bible to be just and true it would have had to be written by thelord himself...The ten commandments were so those are true.. but the bible was created by men and men are flawed.

Ii is llogical in countless ways. I was a believer until I gave it a cold hard look with a dispassionate eye. Even when I believed, I always had a thought in the back of my mind, "What a dumb way to run a universe." It may be comforting to rely on the rock of ages for our strength, but it appears to be an imaginary rock, one that exists only in our minds. Maybe it's where the expression "rocks in our head" came from. I have seen firsthand the power of the human mind to ignore facts and believe whatever it wants to believe and create its own reality, in more areas than just religion, and even when faced with perfectly clear evidence to the contrary.

Looking at some of the blatant translation errors and outrightly intentional alterations, it's hard to stand as the "word of God." If it's God's word, God should have the power to prevent man's corruptive mind from suiting a sacred book to suit the church's desires. Seeing that God allowed this book to be corrupted, either a) God is not worthy of worship, or b) God does not believe in the importance of the Bible.

i think it holds many great teachings ...
i also know that it holds many contradictions
i cannot fathom how something written by God would not be plain and simply put so that the world would understand it
even Christians cant agree on an answer when posed with a question
do i believe in Jesus ? ... yes sure i do
do i believe that the bible was written in good faith ? .... yes but meant to be taken symbolically

If you want to believe in talking bushes, donkeys, satyrs, unicorns, then fine.
If you want to believe that it took an ALL-POWERFUL deity 6 FREAKIN' DAYS to create the EARTH, then fine.
If you want to believe that the earth is flat, then have at it.
If you want to believe that somehow, a senile old fart managed to build a giant wooden boat and hold 2 of the earth's 4 billion species of animals (at the alleged time, even the ones that asexually reproduced and/or lay eggs) on it, then so be it.
If you want to believe that everyone who doesn't believe in your god is a corrupt, vile asshole who is incapable of doing anything good, then so be it.
Me?
I'll stick to reason.
