how to give suppository?

Question

I'm babysitting for a 10 year old boy. His parents instructed me to give a suppository before bed if he has not gone poo the whole day per. his doctors orders.

Do I have him stand up for it or what? How can I make it non-painful? What do I do if he struggles? Is it better to use gloves?

I've tried calling them, but their phone seems to not have service/lost power.

A little weird but if its doctors orders.

Have him lay over the back of the sofa with his pants down, spread his cheeks and insert the suppository. You don't want to scratch him with a fingernail in the rectum, so Rubber gloves and some baby oil might be a good idea to keep from hurting him.The suppository needs to go inside the rectum an inch or two so your finger will have to go inside a bit unless there is an applicator. Lube both the suppository and the outside of the rectum with the baby oil. Have a baby wipe or tissue to clean up the excess lubricant.

This can be a traumatic experience for the child, so explain what you are going to do and why before you do it.

Use gloves.
Lube the suppository with something like petroleum jelly if it isn't already covered with a lubricant.
Have him bend over while standing or curl up in a ball on the bed.
Insert slowly.
Some might recommend the suppository be warm to avoid the shock of something cold.

Convince the child to bend over explain what your abou to do and gently insert the enima in the childs anus. Gloves are required for this operation. THen give the child a prize of some sort to reward for "being a good boy",

As far as I am concerned, you shouldn't be doing it. No parent should make a babysitter do something that they should be doing themselves. Also, if he is 10 years old, he can do it himself if need be. However, my suggestion would be to wait until the parents get home and tell them to do it themselves since being constipated doesn't seem like a "medical emergency".

Get him to lie in the fetal position. At least wash your hands before and after. If you have latex gloves, then use them.

I bet he can do it himself, if he has a prescription and it has happened before. Best to ask him the best way.

tell him to bend over and stick it up his ***!!!!! seriously i would tell his parents you dont feel comfortable doing it. oh and yeah use the gloves
