Chronic bad breath is caused by periodontal disease. This disease is when the bacteria in your mouth grows out of control and passes "critical mass." When this happens your body tries to fight the bacteria by killing everything in your mouth. The body begins to eat away at the bone and gums and you will eventually lose your teeth.

Now, this is a very fixable problem. First and foremost, you need to see your dental hygienist for a scale and root planing. They will clean the bacteria that has been growing under your gums. Then it will be up to you to continue to see your hygienist and take excellent care of your teeth at home.

Go see your dentist, and they can fix your breath and save your teeth.

1. Drink lots of water; it's fundamental to good health.
2. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily also.
3. When you brush, brush you whole tongue to get rid of the bacteria (especially toward the back) that cause most bad breath.
4. Eat a healthy diet.
5. Maintain a healthy digestive system. If the above isn't sufficient, I recommend going to a good health food store and buying a probiotic supplement to boost the healthy bacteria in your gut that is essential for proper digestion. Gas, belching and bloating are also hints that you should get a probiotic. If you want to start with yogurt, you can try that. Just make sure that it says "active bacterial culture" on the label.

Apples are supposed to be a natural breath freshener. Obviously brushing your teeth 3 x a day, and flossing once a day will help, as well as using a mouth wash. If you have not been to the dentist in a while schedule an appointment. Bad breath can be a sign of tooth decay. Someone with chronic bad breath may want to check with their doctor, as some medical conditions can cause bad breath.

Look up Halitosis on the internet, that is the formal name for bad breath. True, bacteria builds up on your teeth, under your gumline, on your tongue, but also it can come from your stomache. I don't really know what is out there on the market but they did have pills of sorts for that once upon a time. I think a good diet, including yogurt and foods with good bacteria, like cranberries, pumpkin and sesame seeds, and other foods that enhance the good bacteria and fight the bad, all help with the process. Definitely avoid things like coffee, or brush and rinse afterwards, especially in the morning..that is when your breath an be at it's worst.

Of course if you smoke...then nothing much can help you there..it's gross no matter how you try to cover it up.

I'm an orthodontist assistant and deal with bad breath all day long.....as long as you brush, floss, and brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper that should fix you up...Also the sonicare toothbrushes work well to blast away anything you may have between teeth if your not a flosser.

Make sure when you brush your teeth brush your tongue as well
if you hold the tip of your tongue when brushing it may stop you from gagging!!
that is the main reason for bad breath unless you haven't got rotten teeth

Baking Soda and Ground Cinnamon together put that on your toothbrush and that should work. Also works when you eat strong smelling foods. Also you could brush your teeth maybe three times a day, also rinse with listerine, gold one.

check for cavities, decaying teeth can cause bad odours. also if your nose is stuffed and you breathe out your mouth alot, you invite more bacteria in which gives in an extra foul odour.
Eating alot of sugars and carbohydrates also does not help, the bacteria in your mouth love it. use listerine mouthwash, brush your tongue.
