Well, I think along these lines---the purpose of our lives, is to do something with that life, that will live beyond our mortal existance. Since mankind is different from the animals, in that we can create, and use our reason to increase the overall standard of living, for the human race. Do something with purpose, that could potentially help all mankind; that someone in some future time could look back, and say, "Thank God that that person lived!"
For example, study Louis Pasteur -- who was very passionate about finding the cure for rabies -- he despaired that so many people suffered and died needlessly, so he drove himself to discover the cure. Or, Dr. Martin Luther King -- he didn't set out to be a leader, exactly. But, he stepped forward when he was called upon, to lead and inspire people, to fight for their rights and their dignity; for economic justice. He did not lay down his life in vain. Or, think of Beethoven -- his music is immortal, because he wasn't thinking about himself; he wrote his music "...for generations as yet unborn..."
The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution puts forward a very important idea / principle: "....to defend the General Welfare..." -- the government is created, to defend the well being, of all of the people of the U.S. And, as Lincoln said, "....of THE PEOPLE, by THE PEOPLE, and for THE PEOPLE..."

At present stage of human history, when the continued work of the Godly-guidance stands, already, perfected in terms of the long series of prophets and their Scriptures. And__ the Day of Judgement is also at hand. The masses must review, all and all of that, which is being maintained by them; in the name of faith and belief.
The ignorant must pay heed to the Scriptures and the Message of Monotheism, contained therein. Still there is some time for the Repentive Recourse to reform and recognize the actual purpose of life including the actualisation thereof.
Jesus (PBUH) had given this message in his prayer on the cross (The Psalm 22)
“Praise the Lord, you servants of the Lord
Honour the Lord,
You descendants of Jacob
Worship the Lord, you people of Israel.”
(The Psalm 22:23)
It means that praise is meant for the Lord alone. And___ to honour the Lord means to obey the Lord in terms of the Lord’s Commandments and to worship the Lord means to seek help and refuge from the Lord as the Lord is the Omnipotent-Protector alone. And___ that is the sole purpose of human life.

Paul lived a purpose driven life. He said," I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step"
One day history will come to a close, but eternity will go on forever. William Carey said, " The future is as bright as the promises of God."
When fulfilling your purpose seems tough, don't give in to discouragement. Remember your reward, which will last forever. The Bible says, " For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all" (2 Corinthians 4 :17)
Peace!

I like to think of this life as school. Our souls need the human experience in order to pass on to the next level. All experience is learning, sin as well as virtue. And no human ever really learned a good lesson except through adversity. Death is not the end of everything but a new beginning. So the real purpose of this life is to live, taste, dance, learn, weep and soak it all up.

The reason we are all here is to love (and be loved).
Unless we're born with a silver spoon in our mouths, I believe the great majority of us work so we can not only supply ourselves with basic comforts (food, shelter), but with the things that, individually, we feel makes life more enjoyable.
The government is far from perfect, but I believe there has to be a certain amount of structure and balance to keep a society from just falling apart, and rules need to be in place to help provide that.

Of course. I mean how can we live a free life and a happy life if we think that we have a complete end. I'm a Christian, and I believe I know the purpose of life. To love God and love your neighbor. To love God is to have a personal relationship and to love God back. When we turn to God, our life seems to be a million times more full and meaningful. And to love your neighbor is to care for others, not hurt or bully others, and to help each person to the extent of your ability.

The purpose of life to me is live everyday to the fullest to count my luck stars that I am without hunger, have all my limbs, can enjoy this beautiful world and everything it holds. To know that my purpose will come when I don't know if its hear now I hope I am doing it right.
To love God and know that in the end death will only be the beginning to a better place!

No, I think that's the stupidest question anyone can ask.
If you've realized that the government is just trying to control you, why do you keep following them like sheep? If a country fell into a state of anarchy, all humans would kill each other. They don't know how to live together, or live at all.
