everytime i get up to do something the dog always wants to go outside ! he never does anything but listen to whats going on and sniffing the air. i am afraid he will end up goin on the rug if i don't take him out.(new rug) how do i tell him no when he keeps wanting to go out for no reason! he just keeps barking and wants to be outside! what to do!i suspect there may be a female in heat somewhere where i live but could that cause him to want to go out every 5 min?

You didn't state how old he is. First thing, labs are a outdoors kinda breed. They are working dogs. Used a lot by hunters to retrieve game. They need a lot of exercise. This is the breed.
They have a heavy coat and can get too hot inside. Or just plain bored to death.

You didn't tell how long you've had him or if he is neutered. Yes, if there is a female around in heat he will know it and if not neutered he will be wanting to find her. I suspect he just likes it outside. Depending on where you are it is probably nice outside, not too hot like in the summer. All my dogs of various breeds are really enjoying the cooler sunny days right now.

Is he trying to tell you he would like for you and he to go out and play?? You may not mind sitting around the house but that isn't real fun for him. Labs are not a cutesy little house dog. Get on the net and study up on the breed. They need a lot of room to run and exercise. And a person to play with and interact with. And they can take pretty cold weather and not bother them.

Listen to your dog, he's trying to get your attention.

Is your dog on a feeding/watering schedule? My dog is and it is easy to predict when he needs to go. He does not have the run of the house. He stays in his crate after I feed him and until he needs to go...then I let him outside. Once he is done piddling I let him run around the house until I feed him again then just repeat the process so he has never had an accident in the house. If he starts to whine when he is in his crate (his time out area) I squit him with a water gun and he shuts up.

If your dog want to be outside then let him run around and have fun. My dog prefers to be indoors so I don't have that problem.

My dog is the same way he just loves it outside so he is outside 24/7 he only comes inside in the worst of weather. i advise yoou to fence in your yard or do what we did we got him what i think is called a runner but i'm not shure. it is a long wire covered with rubber and yoou put it up from tree to tree ( or from one solid thing to another) and another rope is hooked to a little wheel that lets him run from tree to tree ( or from something solid to another)

good luck

Just let him stay outside... if that's where he wants to be. My Australian Shepherd wanted to go out all the time when she got older. Don't know if your dog is older or not though.

If you don't want him going on your rug, don't let him on it. Keep him in the kitchen or something.
