My 5 year old just came down with the stomach flu on Sat. morning and had just a bit of runny poops and then vomited a little the first time and then enough for a 5 year old the second time. The next day he had a couple (small runny poops) and did not want to eat. The next day (mon.) he had one runny poop (small) around 5 pm and then woke up today wanting to eat. He ate two kelloggs waffles and then had some fries later on. He just now had two runny poops and the last one was awful. Does anyone think I should try a pepto bismo for him or would that make it worse? Yesterday and today he has been running around like he is back to normal. Could it be food poisoning? I would take him in to see the doctor, but I don't want to drag him in if it is a waste of time and they say it is just a virus and let it run it's course. I hate to see him like this. Any thoughts or if someone might have had this experience already with their child, any help would be appreciative! Never any fevers

Most likely it was the flu. Food poisoning could have caused severe cramping.

Its hard to tell ..It could be a virus and if hes getting better then watch him in the furture to see if certain foods upset his bowls-food poisoning keeps your system sensitive for a long long time. Try and stay away from greasy foods as well as dairy for a couple more days and see how this pans out.If hes still having diarrhea after day 5 or 6 call your doctor. Kids dehydrate really easy.

Give him lots of fluid to drink. Also, take it easy on what you give him to eat. The waffles are okay, as long as they're dry, but fries aren't a good idea. That probably aggrivated his belly even more. So offer him dry, non greasy foods to eat. Also, it's very important to give him lots of liquids, as he's probably dehydrated. I'm sure he's okay, but if it goes on a couple more days, I'd definately take him to the doctor.
