because i believe it exposes the truth. or it will make alot of people wonder if there's any truth in it, thus taking power away from the church that has been the most powerful for thousands of years.

the subject that Christians have with the Da Vinci Code isn't that this is fiction, yet that it predicated on assumptions that are opposite to user-friendly Christian teachings. The Left in the back of sequence of books are fiction and are many times common with Christians - as are many different works of fiction.

Because we are now in an age where the word of Jesus is making nonbelievers curious. To have such falsehoods floating around mainstream media, influencing what people might otherwise perceive to be as the truth, can hinder many people from finding God. The truth must be known... especially for a "touchy" and very important subject like this. To sum it up, Christians simply are worried about the ultimate salvation of the unsaved portions of God's children... and they know that God does not want them to think of what is wrong as right. Some people actually believe that the Da Vinci Code is true. I haven't read it yet, but apparantly there are a lot of non-Christian ideas in that book. Not everyone realizes that it is fiction.

Because of the ideas people can get from it. It's to avoid bad theology.
You see, that which is written in the Bible is "God-breathed" or inspired by God. It isn't DICTATED, but it is INSPIRED. These are mystical insights gleaned over hundreds of years and can lead one into deeper understanding of the Divine nature when carefully nurtured.
The DaVinci Code is simply an entertaining book that is not attempting to teach theology at all, but those who are not skilled in theology might go astray with it.

Religion has always been about control. And in order to control you have to have good and evil. So, if the DaVinci Code were to establish that Jesus was married...then people would think that this fact was hidden from them and what else is being hidden. In other words, they would begin to think and form opinions themselves without being an automaton.
Personally, I have to agree with what the book opened up as possibility...that a man of Jesus's age in that time period would more than likely been married as men married at around 15-20 years.

*shrug* You got me there.
I do remember when it first came out that A LOT of people in my church thought it was 100% fact wrapped up in a story with fictional characters. There was a lot of discussion on what in the book was historically accurate, what wasn't, what agreed with Catholic teaching, what didn't, and mostly, why it all did or didn't matter. But to me that's just basic education stuff.

We get really hyped up over that sort of thing. I think it is funny how many Evangelicals got into the fuss, when otherwise they would be picking apart Catholicism. Also, the Christian book market is huge. It is basically a captive audience (i.e. demographic).
I never read the book or watched the movie.

Because it could be true, or a similar scenario? It would have been only a very weird young man in those days, who was a Jew, who was not married and with children. By 18-20 years of age a man would be married as this was the one thing Jews were very obedient on---G-d said, be fruitful and multiply. They took it seriously.

I don't know. It's just as strange as some of them trying to make the Left Behind Series a prophecy. Or saying that kids are turning to Wicca because of Harry Potter (these 2 things are not related in any way).... it's kind of like saying that they turn to witchcraft because they watch Disney movies and want to be like the Fairy Godmother. *Sigh* And they wonder why America is as messed up as it is when it comes to Religion.

the Da Vinci code attempts to rewrite history of the Bible and as a side effect, disprove it. There is no real physical evidence that the Code is accurate and that it does supersede the Bible.
Its good reading and full of speculations from cover to cover.
