(-: The absolute best thing is to ask the hostess what she needs.

However, if she doesn't give you any hints, how about a basket of clementine oranges (the little ones, aka mandarin oranges or mikans)? They are delicous, peel easily, and are a great alternative snack to all the heavy Thanksgiving food. AND, they can be distributed to guests afterward, or kept by the hostess to eat later.

If you are asked to bring something to the meal then like the commercial bring the green bean casserole ( frozen green beans with mushrooms, onion, mushroom soup and topped with those fried onions in a can...cook in the oven for 30 min and serve) beyond that sometimes a DVD movie is a nice idea or a fall bouquet of flowers.

An easy no-bake cake. Two small boxes of french vanilla pudding (instant). 3 cups of cold milk. One container of Cool Whip. A box of graham crackers, and one container of chocolate frosting.
Mix the dry pudding mix with the 3 c. of milk and the cool whip.
Put a single layer of graham crackers on the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Put half of the pudding mixture on top of the graham crackers and spread evenly. Put another single layer of graham crackers on top of the pudding, followed by the last half of the pudding mixture. Put one more layer of graham crackers on the top of that layer of pudding and then frost the graham cracker layer with the chocolate frosting (may help to heat it up for a minute in the microwave). Refrigerate it overnight so the graham cracker layers become kind of a flaky crust. Cut into cake squares and enjoy... it's called Chocolate Eclair Cake.

I was just thinking about the tv commercial last year, where everybody arrived at the dinner with a Green Bean Casserole!

I would take Deviled Eggs.

If you are going as a guest then I would suggest a great bottle of wine. I strongly suggest my favorite a Shiraz which is a red wine and the brand is Woop Woop Shiraz from Australia. It is just fantastic and moderately priced too!
