A very clever cult leader.
Sounds like you've done your research.
Christianity and Catholicism are the world's biggest cults, it is a statisticlly proven fact. Research the net and you'll see.
In traditional usage, the cult of a religion, quite apart from its sacred writings ("scriptures"), its theology or myths, or the personal faith of its believers, is the totality of external religious practice and observance, the neglect of which is the definition of impiety. Cult is literally the "care" owed to the god and the shrine. The term "cult" first appeared in English in 1617, derived from the French culte, meaning "worship" or "a particular form of worship"

Jesus was not the son of God or a cult leader. He was a good philosopher with a good message for the masses. His later disciples exagerrated his feats, to instill the fear of God in the people.
Frankly speaking, the atheists do not subscribe to the public mainly because the impossibility of the actions that was described in the bible.
Wars, famine, plagues and diasters are accepted by the general public, because they still exists. But how many ressurections does one experience now. If the doctors now can heal the blind and the lame, can they be too considered the messengers of God.
In ancient China, we have many physicians that were able to heal a lot of sickness. But they were never anything more than a doctor. They were later deitified by the people, the same way people prayed to Jesus now.

Jesus actions do not fit the definition of a cult leader. He asked for nothing from anyone except to love him and respect him.

Hope this helps you.
The Bible is about Jesus (Luke 24:27,44; John 5:39; Heb. 10:7). The prophets prophesied about Him (Acts 10:43). The Father bore witness of Him (John 5:37, 8:18). The Holy Spirit bore witness of Him (John 15:26). The works Jesus did bore witness of Him (John 5:36; 10:25). The multitudes bore witness of Him (John 12:17). And, Jesus bore witness of Himself (John 14:6, 18:6).
Jesus is God in flesh (John 1:1,14). He is fully God and fully man (Col. 2:9) thus, He has two natures: God and man. He is not half God and half man. He is 100% God and 100% man. He never lost his divinity. He existed in the form of God and when He became a man, He added human nature1 to Himself (Phil. 2:5-11). Therefore, there is a "union in one person of a full human nature and a full divine nature."2 Right now in heaven there is a man, Jesus, who is Mediator between us and God the Father (1 Tim. 2:5). Jesus is our advocate with the Father (1 John 2:1). He is our Savior (Titus 2:13). He is our Lord (Rom. 10:9-10). He is not, as some cults teach, an angel who became a man (Jehovah's Witnesses) or the brother of the devil (Mormonism). He is wholly God and wholly man, the Creator, the Redeemer. He is Jesus.

Yeah, He was so clever, He managed to get Himself killed over it. Grow up.
There is more evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ than there is of Caesar's Wars. The testimony contained in the New Testament is considerable, and verifiable. No other ancient text comes close.
No one really disputes Julius Caesar's The Gallic Wars (10 manuscripts remain, with the earliest one dating to 1,000 years after the original autograph). No one really disputes Pliny the Younger's Natural History (7 manuscripts; 750 years elapsed). Or Thucydides' History (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed). No one disputes Herodotus' History (8 manuscripts; 1,350 years elapsed). No one really disputes Plato (7 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed). No one really disputes Tacitus' Annals (20 manuscripts; 1,000 years elapsed.) Homer's Iliad, the most renowned book of ancient Greece, is the second best-preserved literary work of all antiquity, with 643 copies of manuscript support discovered to date. In those copies, there are 764 disputed lines of text, as compared to 40 lines in all the New Testament manuscripts.
Further, there was a skeptic in the 1800's named Simon Greenleaf, who was a founder of the Harvard Law School, and wanted to prove that the accounts of the resurrection of Jesus Christ were false. After much research, he determined that the evidence contained in the New Testament accounts could stand scrutiny in a court of law.

Would a clever cult leader allow himself to be whipped, nailed to a cross and die for his wish to save us from sin?
