First off, NEVER call it a steak and cheese sandwich. It's a CHEESESTEAK. The best place is Geno's or Pat's. There is always a competition between the two but Geno's is a tad better. Then after that cheesteak buy a pretzel for a snack and eat a tastycake for dessert.

If you're going to be here for awhile, then try both Pat's and Geno's. If this is a one shot deal, then go to the nearest corner spot. Honestyl, Pat's and Geno's kind of suck. The meat can be leathery and real fatty. I honestly think Tony Luke's has the best, but that's me. Try some roast pork sandwiches while you're here too, especially if you go to Tony Luke's (Oregon Ave, under I-95 in South Philly...by Walt Whitman Bridge)

It is not a steak and cheese in Philadelphia. It is a cheesesteak! A cheesesteak is only a cheesesteak in Philadelphia. Everywhere else it is a steak and cheese. Once you have one you will know why. Jim's Steaks on South Street.
